I knew God made the world before I figured out Baseball must be his favorite game. What took longer to figure out is the fact that God is always lavishing rich blessings on a world He loves.
Jesus ascended to his Father, and his brother James matured. Brother James tells the Church: “Every good and perfect gift is from above, coming down from the Father of the heavenly lights, who does not change like shifting shadows.”
Where else would I think good gifts come from?
God loves his world, so why would I be surprised to notice that the blessings of God are everywhere? How easy it is to focus on my desire for good gifts and overlook God’s work of giving rich gifts around the globe every second of every day.
I am mindful of wonderful places to live throughout the nations of the world. They are a grand gift of God. I have seen many of those locations. We are not the only nation blessed by God.
God works through nations to bless his world.
God feeds his creation through sunshine, rain, and harvest. He feeds and cares for destitute people through his Church, through business endeavors, through governments, through neighbors, through civic clubs, and through nongovernmental agencies. Who knows, he may still have a raven drop a seed to grow a fruit tree or provide a monkey as food for a jungle dweller.
God cares for the sick by using moms and dads, hospitals, doctors, nurses, administrators, medics, agencies, governments, and his Church. God uses his creation to care for his creation.
When I turn my eyes, ears, heart, and brain, over to God I see him at work. I see God loving his creation and constantly caring for it through his generous gifts. God showers gifts and never sleeps as he moves history toward the restored garden.
When I reflect on his goodness and generosity, I remember the greatest gift of all—the one he offered on a hill. For it is only through acceptance of his most costly gift that he will allow me to enter the restored garden.
Once I arrive in the garden, his gifts will continue. He paints those rich gifts in terms of silver, gold, gemstones, peace, and happiness because that is as grand as my brain can comprehend.
For in truth, God’s Garden gifts will exceed every possible human expectation.
What is your reflection on gifts you receive from God?
