Supercharged

There is nothing anemic about super.

Advertisers want a rise from my attention span and my desire gene when I see or hear the word super.

Organizers selected the name Super Bowl for a reason. A super event draws spectators.

However, “super” is not enough. When connected to “charge” the adrenalin shoots off the charts.

The word supercharged paints the picture of a raging bull for a roaring crowd, or a muscle truck prepared to smoke tires at the starting line. Supercharged is to obtain my attention. If it is supercharged, I should want it or want to be part of the action.

As I reflect on God, I try in vain to grasp His power. He is supercharged defined.

I draw my thoughts to Astronomy. I have never owned a telescope and have visited a Planetarium only once. At the same time, I am fascinated with space discovery. I highly respect the work of Astronomers. The Astronomy gene—like the art gene—didn’t find its way to my DNA.

This week, my friend and writing Professor Joseph Bentz of Azusa Pacific University reminded me of the National Geographic article about the newly discovered diamond planet twice the size of earth and eight times its mass. One-third of the planet could be pure diamond. In his recent book, Pieces of Heaven: Recognizing the Presence of God, he writes about last year’s astronomical discovery of a giant cloud of mist—forty billion times the mass of earth—containing enough water to fill all the oceans on earth 140 trillion times. Only a supercharged power could create that.

What power—and this is only one testimony to my supercharged God.

Now for the punch line—I am super-charged because a powerful God, His Son, and His Spirit reside in me. The same power that created galaxies lives within me. Why in the name of heaven should I ever be timid? I would think that any assignment God sends my direction is not a time to hesitate. More often than I want to admit, I balk.

In reflecting on the learning and doing phases of life, supercharged God-power rescued me often during the first 65 years. Facing the sunset years, when body and mind begin to slow, I will get to depend yet again on the Godhead living within to get me to the end.

I will enter the restored garden powered for eternity.  That is quite a thought to be supercharged for eternity.

What are your reflections? Stay tuned. – Gary Sorrells
