My Grenades and the Disenfranchised

about

This is far from a political post.

My political activism is limited to two thoughts. First, I am glad others are willing to shoulder the burdens and consequences of world decisions.

My other thought—after  living through the administrations of twelve presidents—is I would be a far more useful citizen of God’s kingdom and of the earthly kingdom, if I sent more prayer toward heaven and less venom toward the leaders.

Only God knows how to address current events in Syria.

My mind locks down when I attempt to comprehend the plight of millions of children living in refugee camps without the basics of food, shelter, and water—not to mention the rampage of disease and a lack of sanitation.

It makes me want to spend my time tossing irrelevant grenades on gnat picking spiritual accusations towards those who don’t see church as I see church.

I hope I was able to communicate an appropriate amount of sarcasm in my last sentence.

I have no idea how to help the displaced Syrian refugee children. That fact alone pains me.

One thing I know–I  plan to spend less and less time on the petty disagreements that divide God’s children.

I suspect it would bring a smile to God’s face and warm feelings of pride into His heart, if all of us would stop fighting like children and put a stop to our religious sport called “toss the grenade.” And, (this is a big “and”) be God’s heart and hands in carry for the famished hearts and gauntly bodies of the walking disenfranchised.

That just might be closer to Jesus’ definition of defending truth than to the way I define it.

Stay tuned.

  1. Thank you, Gary, very well put. I want to be Gods heart and hand as well, to touch others lives with God’s love. Not nit picking or throwing stones. May God continue to bless and guide you.
