Satan has to love politics. Can there be a more divisive sport?
In the political world of today concern for people and truth, take a back seat—if even allowed in the room. Oh how the father of lies must love the spectacle.
It is both comical and sad to watch a reporter interview a politician. More often than not, the “representative of the people” has the talking point answer for all questions. In fact, the question doesn’t need asking for the memorized answer to flow forth. Politicians are skilled at answering questions not asked.
Satan loves the words left, right, liberal, and conservative, as they are wonderful
representatives of division.
If hate and division are his goals, Satan must enjoy his winning streak.
Here is what I think.
As divisive noise accelerates, it hits me on a personal and on a corporate level. I want to protect my soul.
I must fight my satanic urge to demonize one who salutes a conclusion I did not reach. Why is it so hard to enter an exchange of ideas without attributing wrong motive to those who disagree with me?
On a personal level I want to be true to Jesus. I want to hold with greater humility the conclusions I reach as I attempt to honor God’s will. I want to follow Jesus with integrity.
On a corporate level I belong to the body of Christ. He calls that church. Integrity is an essential part of being body. As body we are one whole. Jesus is the head.
Satan likes nothing better than to practice his divisive skill of politics within Christ’s body. That gets at the very heart of the war he rages against God.
When I practice division within the body of Christ, I find myself in fellowship with Satan participating with him against God.
He makes it easy. The talking points flow with ease. I have the answers why should I care about questions? Left, right, liberal, conservative, sound, unsound, us, them, unfaithful, truth slackers, are all words that flow far too quickly in my judgmental attitude.
It’s time to listen to Jesus, “Get behind me, Satan! You are a stumbling block to me; you do not have in mind the concerns of God, but merely human concerns.”
Isn’t it about time we opened ourselves up to the grace of God and closed our churches to Satan and his political divisiveness?
Stay tuned.
