God’s Story True or False?

GodReflection: Power Words

aboutGod’s story fuels power words.

In the beginning God, the Son, and the Holy Spirit created galaxies, earth, and life. God created man and woman for His own fellowship and love. All was perfect.

Satan introduces evil via the woman and the man.  The stain of sin taints the perfection of creation. God drives man from the holy garden since God cannot be a companion with evil.

Outside of the garden evil prevails. Humankind plunged to the depth of sin for centuries to follow. The holiness of God had no a choice—all descendents of Adam and Eve must die. Evil and God cannot coexist.

Only a man named Noah found favor in God’s heart. God saved Noah his wife, their three sons, and three daughter-in-laws.

God’s love for humankind is so great that He cannot deny Himself from initiating a plan—beginning with Noah—to return His beloved creation to its sinless state.

Centuries pass and Abraham shows promise to be a man who could love God.  His heart needed to grow to completely trust God.

God's Story1Beginning with Abraham, Isaac, and Jacob, God set out to build a nation of people. He sought only love and loyalty in return. He received only rejection. His desire was to be their benevolent king.

This time God purges His children through captivity. A remnant survives.

God’s prophets told of a time when God would create a new heart within His people. The new heart would come at the cost of God sending His only son to become man, live a perfect life and die as the restorative sacrifice for the people.

After three days in hell paying for the sins of humanity God raised the son from the dead. The son returned to the Father leaving his Holy Spirit to indwell in new hearts of all who believe the story and surrender their lives daily to the rule of King Jesus.

These—the people of God—await the return of Jesus and live in confidence that his sacrificial blood covers all sin. God’s people look forward to living eternally with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit upon a new earth never again touched by sin, suffering, and death.

truefalseThat is the story. Power words are dependent upon my belief or disbelief of God’s Story. The story defines the depth of values living within my vocabulary.

If I believe the story, words like forgiveness, trust, joy, grace, and obedience turn into powerful words in setting the compass for my life’s direction.

Should I disbelieve the story, words such as power, lust, lie, accumulation, and self, will guide my life.

Here is what I think.

My task in this world—as one committed to Jesus and to the truth of God’s story—is to live in gratitude for holy grace extended to me. That makes a set of words powerful in my attempt to keep my heart’s compass pointed toward God.

The challenge before me is to identify the power words that guide my life and determine topowerwords17 let positive words grow in their power as I shed negative words that rob me from full out trust in Jesus.

I don’t know that I look forward to this journey. However, it is a trip I feel called to take.

Stay tuned.
