GodReflection: Power Words
With each new day, I find “home,” growing as a power word guiding my walk. The power of the word home increased from a recent “aha moment.” Hold that thought. I will come back to it.
Home holds a warm spot in my life. It was my great fortune to go from the birthing room to a loving home. Prior to the death of my parents, a visit home always added a warm glow to my spirit.
I am blessed to have lived extended periods of my life in five different cities. Perfection didn’t reside in any of the five. However, in all five live warm memories that provide the aroma of home. There are other cities where God’s people extended to me such a warm welcome during shorter encounters they too spark remembrances of home.
God continues to honor home in my life. Since starting my own home almost 43 years ago it continues to pull me like a magnet anytime I leave for a trip or an errand. I like home.
Now, let me go back to my aha moment.
It added an eternal dimension to home and increased its drawing power.
A great regret is not being a speed-reader. The world of books makes my life like one with a toothpick as a tool while being exposed to a rich vein of gold. The result is I must select books carefully.
Last year a close friend recommended I read the book Heaven by Randy Alcorn. It was a “game changer,” in terms of today’s vernacular.
Alcorn begins in Genesis and works his way through the Book of Revelation examining the hundreds of passages that speak of heaven. Skillfully, he attempts to peel off fabricated ideas attached to Scripture’s description of eternal destiny.
I can now hardly wait to be me in a new body living on a new restored earth with family and friends from my earth walk. I will not be a disembodied spirit floating eternally through the heavens. Upon God’s new earth, I will find a tangible presence where I will be with the Father, the Son, and the Holy Spirit.
Life in my new physical home will bring the excitement of new acquaintances from the
family of God from all history. I look forward to the surprise of who will be present. I think of “Booger Red,” the little rebel who tormented my childhood. Recently, I learned he now walks with Jesus. Unbelievable, I will see “Booger Red,” looking like Jesus!
Like Eden, fellowship will be complete, my body will be well and strong forever, and peace and harmony will cover every square foot.
I will enjoy camaraderie over fantastic food and coffee without the worry of gaining unhealthy weight or fearing my heart will refrain from beating.
I will be home.
More than ever in the past—home morphs into a power word that guides my course. Only the word hell can begin to describe the eternal tragedy of missing life beneath a new heaven lived upon the new earth.
Heaven will be everything God envisioned for the word home.
Home is a powerful word that guides my walk.
Stay tuned.
