GodReflection: Power Words
It was my senior year and the thrust of Ms. Mollie Bailey’s Journalism class was the publication of the High School yearbook. In her class I learned to identify the five W’s to write a good story. To identify the who, what, where, why, and when, brings a story into focus.
The Christian walk begins with “who.” It is a holy Who.
Everything else is secondary. The who is found in Jesus. The what, when, where, and why serve as explanation and the underpinning of the story.
Who is a super power word. Jesus is always the answer to who.
The way I answer the who question determines my aspirations for how I will act from my first awakening moments until I close my eyes in the sleep of the night.
I think of what happens during my awake hours when Jesus is the Who of my life. I can be easier on myself since I accept what Jesus did for me on a cross and in a tomb.
I don’t have to get it all right today. I do the best I can to let Jesus live in me. I live knowing his blood flows daily to cleanse my goof ups. His red blood keeps my life as white and spotless as a new snow. It’s rather neat to know I get a free pass by keeping my eyes on Jesus.
That fact alone should create a sense of deep gratitude in my spirit. By knowing whose I am, I should want to treat others in a more gentle way and with abundant grace as I walk through my day.
My day is like yours. Telephone calls are destined to eternal hold mode. There are times when attendants and reception folks seems to hold a graduate degree in incompetence. The way I answer the Who makes a difference as to my response.
Because I am a child of Jesus—who is God and Holy Spirit—the who becomes even more striking.
It’s rather humbling to think that what I do today matters to the Godhead.
Maybe I should go through life with an owl in my head constantly calling out “Who, Who, Who.” At least that might call my attention to the greatest of power words I need to guide my walk.
Stay tuned.

Eddison,
Most thankful that even the Brasileiros are reading over my shoulder. You have always kept your eyes and heart pointed toward the divine WHO.
