Among

GodReflection: Power Words

For we are the temple of the living God. As God has said: “I will live with them and walk among them, and I will be their God, and they will be my people.”

garyguarujaThe church is not a club. The church doesn’t exist for fellowship. The purpose of the church is not that of a safe house.

The church exists because of Jesus. We are his body. We are Jesus serving in hostile and loving environments.  Jesus lives among us throughout this adventure.

“Among,” appears in relation to Jesus primarily as a cozy word of power in New Testament Scripture. He has a special relationship among the twelve. He teaches among them. He is among his disciples as a servant. He appears among them to bring peace.

among4He came in the flesh to dwell among us as the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

Here is what I think.

among5I don’t have to navigate life alone as an individual nor alone in the corporate church. Jesus walks among us through his spirit. His presence is as consistent as the beating of my heart. When my heart beats for the last time, he will walk with me through the grave to the presence of the throne.

There I will encounter the ultimate power of the word “among.”

A loud voice from the throne declared, “Look! God’s dwelling place is now among the people, and he will dwell with them. They will be his people, and God himself will be with them and be their God.

among3I want to remain among the people of God, powered by Jesus living among us, so that one day I can be present when God again walks in the Garden dwelling among His people.

Stay tuned.
