Is Confession Good?

GodReflection: Power Words

In the sight of God, who gives life to everything, and of Christ Jesus, who while testifying before Pontius Pilate made the good confession. – Paul

garyguarujaJesus stood before Pontius Pilate the Roman Judge. The interrogator sought a confession of wrongful action. Instead, he received a confession of kingship.

I find it of interest how a word can express either a positive or a negative dependent upon its usage. Yesterday, in the post on the power of substance, it didn’t take long on the Internet to see its overwhelming negative connotation when tied to the word abuse.

Confession is similar.

confession2It’s a shame to think of confession closely tied to the negative. It is associated with scandal, robbery, violence, and other lawless acts. A confession of lawless behavior makes headlines.

There is good confession. In fact, it gives holy meaning to the word. Those who make the good confession won’t need to fear negative confessions.

The highest use of confession is in New Testament Scripture when people acknowledge the reality of the identity of Jesus. He is Messiah. He is Son of God. He is King. He is Lord.

A Samaritan woman, a young man born blind, Martha the sister of Lazarus, Nathanael, Peter, and Timothy a young mentor of Paul, are among those recorded in Scripture who experienced the aha moment. They recognized the identity of Jesus.

Confession is to respond to Jesus’ identity. Everything changes from that point forward.

confession10My confession guides all decisions.  My confession is like a beacon of light I follow to keep my focus on the holy.

Flowing from who Jesus is confession turns into a word pregnant with power.

How I treat others is powered by confession. Where I spend time is powered by confession. My values are powered by confession. What I feed my mind is powered by confession. My walk with God is powered by confession.

None of the above makes me a hermit. To the contrary, I walk through life with complete enjoyment of God’s good earth and the wonderful people He assigned to walk beside me.

confession8With confession in focus, I become a reflection of the Son’s light in my day to day 24/7 walk. With confession in the spotlight, I live with a confident heart focused on eternity.

I would love to hear how you use this power word of confession to guide your walk.

Stay tuned.
