GodReflection: Power Words
Since, then, you have been raised with Christ, set your hearts on things above, where Christ is, seated at the right hand of God. – Paul
From somewhere out in the above God created the heavens and the earth.
The way I use the word ‘above’ ranges from the most mundane to the most holy.
The picture hangs above the television. The salt is on the shelf above. I look up and see the clouds above.
God is from above.
The mundane to the holy describes my walk on this earth. My challenge is one of creating harmony between the mundane and the holy.
I find the very word used to express both the mundane and the holy is the word of power that helps me make sense of my existence and guide my earth walk.
The mundane use of the word above is so common I use it without much thought. The use of the word above as it relates to the holy requires a conscious effort.
Above is a power word that demands my attention.
The ‘holy above’ sets perimeters on my life.
The One between the cherubim of Glory who spoke from above the ark directly to Moses, is the One who sends every good and perfect gift from above.
He is God who placed His Son above the heavens as King Jesus. The name of Jesus is now the name above all names. It is above where my mind is to dwell.
Because the Jesus from above valued me enough to hang from a cross, He now asks me to follow in his steps and value others above myself—possibly the most difficult challenge of all request.
The above must be an ever-present horizon in the sight line of my eyes.
That sight line determines my eternal destiny. I want to live with Jesus in the above on a new earth with a new heaven.
For that to happen, shouldn’t I want to make sure the power word ‘above’ plays a dominant role in my 24/7 life?
Stay tuned.
