GodReflection: Power Words
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; – Psalms 95:6
There is no greater word than surrender to admit defeat.
Those my age still remember the surrender in Vietnam. Regardless of viewpoint on the validity of the war, surrender stung. It was a dark hour to watch the evening news.
Old Testament Scripture is replete with graphic images of surrender at the end of mighty battles. Words like death, weariness, nakedness, starvation, submission, slave, bound, led, and the complete loss of all property describe surrender.
Not until the story of Jesus enters history can anything good be associated with surrender.
Ordinarily, surrender means compulsion.
In Jesus, surrender changes to a vision of victory.
King Jesus doesn’t come as a conqueror of his subjects. He comes to conquer death. Death surrenders to Jesus and submission to the King becomes voluntary.
He conquers by invitation.
I submit to King Jesus at his invitation.
He invites me to come to his enormous banquet. He invites anyone who is tired and burden to come and he assures rest.
His invitation is simple. He invites me to follow. It is an invitation to life. It is an invitation to enjoy abundance.
It is an invitation to an eternal solution for hunger and thirst. It is an invitation to trade blindness for clear site. It is an invitation for salvation from death. It is an invitation to feast in green pastures. It is an invitation to the Throne Room of God.
It is an invitation for Father God and Son Jesus to live within me through the Holy Spirit.
Although, New Testament Scripture doesn’t use the word surrender, to accept Jesus’ invite, I must surrender.
Throughout life my heart kneels as I join with others to sing, All to Jesus I surrender; All to Him I freely give; I will ever love and trust Him, In His presence daily live.
It is in this sense surrender becomes a power word of worship that guides my walk. It is 24/7 worship. It is a forever acknowledge that Jesus is King and I am a volunteer subject.
Surrender is voluntary. Tell others the good news.
Stay tuned.
