GodReflection: Power Words
Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; – Psalms 95:6
Scripture throws me a curve on my preconceived idea of honor as a linear attitude that flows from me to God.
Maybe the linear route isn’t quite as direct.
God wants me to honor Him through gifts of honor offered to others whose path I share.
The closer I look at Scripture the more I begin to see God’s desires that I honor Him 24/7 in worship by showing honor to my fellow earth travelers.
I read in my Bible:
Whoever is kind to those in need honor God. To do the contrary shows contempt for their Maker.
It honors God when I honor others above myself.
It honors God when I use my body for noble purposes. It honors the Father when I serve Him by being His hands to serve others.
The Apostle Peter’s teaches followers of Jesus that to honor the emperor is to honor God. I conclude it honors God when I honor the leader of my nation.
The Apostle John asked a church to offer assistance to unfamiliar brothers and sisters passing their way and to, please send them on their way in a manner that honors God.
Here is what I think:
It is a gift of worship presented to God when I honor Him by my gifts of honor offered to meet the needs of fellow human beings.
I honor God with my body when I use it to honor others.
Thus, I am in 24/7 worship mode as I give honor to God by keeping my antenna tuned into the needs of others.
In the process, Jesus springs upon me a serendipity:
Whoever serves me must follow me; and where I am, my servant also will be. My Father will honor the one who serves me.
It is a circle of honor. When I honor others as I meet needs of my Adamic brothers and sisters, I honor God by serving the Son and God in turn honors me.
Count me in among those who want to do a better job at 24/7 God worship by being light and by the gift of honor I make to all who cross my life’s walk.
Stay tuned.
