Am I Faithful?

GodReflection: Power Words

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; – Psalms 95:6

garyguarujaFaithful is God. God is Faithful.

That is worthy of 24/7 worship. The word faithful should instantly trigger worship mode.

Only God and His Holy Triad hold claim to faithful.

In the purest sense of the word I am not faithful. Likewise, my church that claims truth is not faithful, nor can any human other than the man Jesus claim to be faithful.

God sets the standard.

faithful6Moses describes Him to the people of Israel: He is the Rock, his works are perfect, and all his ways are just. A faithful God who does no wrong, upright and just is he . . . Know therefore that the Lord your God is God; He is the faithful God, keeping His covenant of love to a thousand generations of those who love Him and keep His commandments.

One of the Psalmists affirms, He is the Maker of heaven and earth, the sea, and everything in them—He remains faithful forever.

I can count on God.

I trust Him to keep every promise. I trust Him to be loyal. I count on Him to keep me away from the grip of Satan. I count on Him to provide power for endurance to live victoriously through every trial encountered on my trail.

Growing up in the Southwestern United States I love the imagery of a trail. It was on the trails where exploration took place. Trails led to great fishing.

faithful12Roads were for city folks. However, the real purpose of roads was to serve as routes to reach the trails. Roads provided passage. Trails provided adventure.

On trails were encounters with beauty, mud, poison ivy, rocks, snakes, and thorns. Heavy packs and uphill climbs took every ounce of energy. Eyes kept vision corners alert for what one never hoped to see—a mother bear with cubs, or a crouched mountain lion.  Sounds like life.

In life, Faithful God watches over me on the trail. In hindsight, I suspect He was with me on the trails of New Mexico and Colorado.

Ok, I take God at His word and believe He is the very personification of faithful.

Now, here is the hard part to understand. God wants me to be faithful.

faithful10God desires Adamic me to identify with a word used to describe perfect God.

He assigns it to me the one who walks in imperfection through my stumbles and falls along the trail of life.

As the youngsters would say, “What’s up with that?”

Here is what I think.

I notice throughout Scripture that God actually uses faithful to describe His followers. Jesus sought faithful servants. Authors of the letters described Christ followers as faithful and admonished them to be faithful.

It is through Jesus the faithful priest who is the faithful Son over God’s house, that I can trust to stand in for imperfect me. He is faithful and just and will forgive [my] sins and purify [me] from all unrighteousness.

Therefore, because the blood of Jesus cleanses all of my sin—I receive the gift of identity with God in the word faithful.

faithful4Faithful is focused allegiance no matter what.

It is through my identity as faithful that I experience eternal life in the present and look forward to eternity in the visual presence of Faithful God.

That makes Faithful a power word I want to keep front and center to my walk.

So my game plan is to keep my eyes focused on Jesus so that through him God counts me faithful.

Stay tuned.
