Path Words to the Holy: Relational

GodReflection: Power Words

garyguarujaGod did not wire me as an extrovert. After being with people in a social setting, I am spent.

For me, the Relational Pathway has little appeal.

Isn’t it grand that God is God of diversity.

relational12For all to have the same wiring would make the body of Jesus dysfunctional. The apostle Paul must have smiled as he wrote to early Christians with his artistic freestyle description of the body. “Can you image what it would look like if the entire body were an eye or and ear?”

Ok, I understand the only way to follow Jesus is in relationship with like-minded disciples. At the same time, it is also true that God draws outgoing, extroverted personalities to join with other gregarious types to walk the Relational Pathway.

Deep within their DNA is the need to approach God with friends. They don’t do God alone.

These men and women seldom find a fit on the pathways of prayer, the artist, the thinker, or the intellectual. That’s ok. Nor does it mean that they remove art, thought, study, and prayer from life.

relational9They find the pinnacle of their walk with God in company of the like minded. They meet God in retreat settings.

They meet Him in a coffee shop with other relational types who find God through joint prayer, mutual encouragement, and the open Scripture.

They may meet God in nature, yet it is so much more meaningful if a friend is present for the experience.

To worship alone is to find themselves on a detour from their primary Relational Pathway. It is as if they touch God when yoked with another believer.

To attempt alone quite time, journal time, or prayer time is more like a sentence—or penitence—then it is a refreshing moment with the Holy.

relational3Here is what I think.

I praise God for those who walk the Relational Pathway.

Should they sequester me to walk only their trail would be a distraction.

I flourish with introspection and alone time. However, I understand as a member of the body of Christ we are not all me.

Father God,

Thank you for the creation of spiritual synergy powered through those who walk the Relational Pathway.

relational1For it is in their joint walk with other believers that they readily encounter your presence.

May those of us wired for other holy pathways refrain from judgment.

May we truly catch the vision of a body designed for diversity where members don’t seek to be an eye or an ear when ones specific design is a hand or a foot.

Father, my prayer is for unity not for uniformity.

Through Jesus I pray,

Amen

Stay tuned.

  2. Doc, ya done good on this one too, along with this whole ‘mini-series’ on how God has wired us differently, according to several major types. I think that along with possible key ‘power words’ you should consider another book developing each of the ‘pathways to God’ you describe…just a thought! Ken
