God Breaks Into Life

GodReflection: God Breaks In Monday

garyguarujaThis past weekend I spent two days in a Trustee Meeting of a Not for Profit Organization.

One thing that makes this NPO stand apart is since day one both trustees and staff attend the two annually scheduled meetings. There is a refreshing integration of trust, expertise, oversight, and joint venture that is palatable.

Years of God-chemistry between staff and trustees creates a spectacular ambience for mission execution.

Sure, we did the progress assessment and the scrutiny of fiscal responsibility. As important as the examination of services and operational procedures are, a greater theme permeated the two days.

Over the course of the meeting, something struck me in a powerful way. It was the indisputable evidence of God’s consistency in breaking into the lives of people across multiple nations.

Let me explain.

It’s easy for me to think about God breaking in to talk with Abraham, Jacob, and Moses. I read where God breaks into our world at the baptism and transfiguration of Jesus, and believe he split the temple curtain at the crucifixion.

That was then and this is now.

Now, back to my experience in the trustee meeting.

Over two days I listened to story after story of God’s encounter through His Son and His Spirit with common everyday people—stories of people walking the face of this earth as they encountered God.

Allegiances changed from Satan. Salvation, habits, joy, and trust filled the accounts of God at work in His world.

The thought occurred to me. I don’t spend enough time to seek out and notice God’s presence on His planet.  Even with my human limitations, I suspect I could see more of God’s hand if only I would look.

What if I had special God dimension glasses that would allow me to look to the left, the right, in front, and in back, and suddenly become aware of God’s activity on behalf of His creatures whom He so dearly loves?

What I witness from story after story when I heard the description of God breaking into His world to care for broken people in country after country was only a nano-fraction of God’s around the clock care.

I bet He is a lot more active within my eyeshot and hearing distance than I give Him credit for being—don’t you think?

It makes me look forward to a time when the scales will drop from my eyes and greater than the speed of a twirling cape at a magic show I will see the fullness of God’s tender touch that was there all along.

Stay tuned.
