GodReflection: It’s Jesus Friday
In all your ways submit to him, and he will make your paths straight (Proverbs 3:6).
Common to tyrants is they killed their own submission gene.
Common to disciples of Jesus is a willingness to seek and to grow in submission.
I find it hard to think of a teaching of Jesus not tied to Jesus’ grand doctrine of submission.
Acceptance of God’s grace—submission. To love God with heart, soul, and mind—submission. To love other human beings—submission. To forgive—submission. To be a God honoring husband and father—submission. To honor parents—submission.
Jesus’ powerful and unreachable doctrines taught in his Mountain sermon and in his Sermon on the Plain are each underpinned with the call of submission.
To follow Jesus is to submit. Even though my effort is clumsy at best—to submit is to imitate Jesus.
It occurs to me if I determine each day to grow in my willingness to submit anew my heart to Jesus I will once again find that right Jesus makes right doctrine.
There is no greater example of submission than to follow the one who could have called ten thousand angles to save him from death at the hands of Roman soldiers and religious leaders. Rather, he chose to submit to the will of Father God.
By his submission to the Father a sin ruptured world filled with lost and broken people would begin the journey back to its perfect state.
It happens through Jesus.
It’s Jesus—it’s what Jesus would have me do don’t you think?
Stay tuned.
