GodReflection: Power Word Wednesday
As the Father has loved me, so have I loved you. Now remain in my love. – Jesus
I live in a time when society attaches very little God value to now. It is more of a word of self-gratification than it is a word that reflects Jesus.
Now is a flashcard.
The wealth and technology of my world flashes choices before me so fast that I can’t act now. I need time to think and investigate.
Jesus’ now is an always and immediate proposition in the Gospels and the sermons of the Acts of the Apostles. The choice was to follow Jesus now or walk away.
Now has a special significance for disciples of Jesus.
I want now to be a power word in my walk.
In the now I can remember the past. It provides a vehicle for joy over victories, lament over failures, and reflection over lessons learned. It is in the now that I can trust the past to the grace of Jesus.
In the now I can plan for the future, I can dream God dreams, and live in hope as I await the vision of God’s promised eternal future. It is in the now that I can trust the future to the grace of Jesus.
However, each step I take on my walk upon earth is in the present now. Step by step, action by action I live in the now as I follow Jesus. I walk and I fall. There is no reason to beat myself up. Jesus grace covers the now. When I score a kingdom goal heaven rejoices with me in the now.
I have the joy of living in the now because when I heard the call of Jesus upon my life I didn’t wait. I didn’t walk the other way. I walked toward the waters of baptism. I was wet. I was in. I was ready to live the now.
One other thought.
Now is a crowded place. It stretches my mind to think about the countless numbers of people across the face of our globe who live in the now as children of God. Surely, God smiles as he adds name upon name to the Book of Life. He keeps it up-to-date.
In the wisdom and love of the Father His book continues open. He extends the now to all who will have a change of heart and place their trust in him.
God gives me now. I probably should do my best to lean upon the Holy Spirit and take advantage of my now time don’t you think?
Stay tuned.
