Jesus Church Is Perfect—It Doesn’t Need Reformation nor Restoration

But we have this treasure in jars of clay to show that this all-surpassing power is from God and not from us. – 2 Corinthians 4:7

GodReflection: It’s Jesus Friday

garyguarujaI’m a lifer.

Were it not for my birth certificate’s authentication that I was in fact born in a hospital, most likely my grand entrance would have been in church.

restore5Figuratively speaking I was born on third base. My advantages in life boggle my mind. It has to be a gift of God far beyond my ability to comprehend.

My next step was clear at a pivotal point in my young life. I declared my trust in Jesus and did the obvious. I was baptized.

Over time I learn that act transformed me into a living cell in the body of Christ. I belong to his body the church. It’s rather neat to think that a guy full of imperfections is grafted into the perfect church the perfect body of Jesus.

As a church lifer here is what I’ve notice. We humans are always trying to fix church.

restore7I’m somewhat slow to catch on. However, I’ve started to wonder how I can fix something that is already perfect?

Is it possible that the act of being washed in the blood of Jesus, thus covered by his grace makes me perfect in the eyes of the Holy just like the church?

Is it possible that my life’s mission is to let Father, Son, and Holy Spirit, grow within me and restore me so that in eternity I can experience the perfection of the original creation?

Is it possible that restoration has nothing to do with church and everything to do with me?

Restoration is about growing in Jesus so that I can experience full sinless fellowship with Creator God.

Here is what I think.

I belong to Jesus’ perfect church. Simultaneously, I am a resident of an imperfect world. My task is to mirror the heart of Jesus along my daily walk.

Fortunately, I’m not the only person in the world with that assignment. I am cohort to untold numbers of Jesus’ followers who belong to his perfect church.

restore1While on earth we live in clay houses. They decay; they break, and are in need of constant repair.

However, something happens when Jesus takes up residence in clay houses. He resides in hearts. From the holes in broken clay the love of Jesus shines out into the world.

Thus, church on earth is clay house believers living and worshiping in communion with the Holy and each other.

Heart and communion with the Holy—and each other—empowers disciples today to be Jesus’ church on earth.

How could I ever restore or reform the Divine design?

Could it be that right Jesus makes right doctrine? Could it be that right Jesus makes right church?

Stay tuned.
