What’s the Big Deal about Jesus?

GodReflection: What’s the Big Deal about Jesus?

“I am the way and the truth and the life. No one comes to the Father except through me.” – Jesus.

garyguarujaThe big deal about Jesus is his claims.

He claimed to be God.

He claimed to be with God in the creation of the world. He claimed to partner with God in the creation of light and life.

He claimed to give human beings the right to be called children of God. Through him they actually could be birthed by God as their father.

He was born man by mother Mary to walk the earth as an exact representation of grace and truth. Should I want to see either I need look no further than Jesus.

Our world wants to define truth and grace as correct thinking about perceived facts and actions. Jesus defines grace and truth as God.

jesus11Jesus claimed to be the Messiah—Emanuel—God with us.

Reminiscent of God’s self-identification to Moses as the I Am Jesus declared himself to be the I Am sent from the I AM.

He described his I Am mission with descriptors of being the bread of life, the light of the world, the gate to God, the good shepherd, God’s son, the resurrection, the life, the way, the truth, the true vine, and the king.

As the way, the truth, and the life, Jesus claimed, No one comes to the Father except through me” (John 14:6).

He made the way possible by laying down his life for the sheep.

jesus4“I lay down my life for the sheep. . . The reason my Father loves me is that I lay down my life—only to take it up again. No one takes it from me, but I lay it down of my own accord. I have authority to lay it down and authority to take it up again. This command I received from my Father” John 10:15-18).

He claimed he would die for my sin—in fact the sin of every human being.

He claimed he would conquer death and return to life. He claim he would go to the Father and prepare an eternal home for me. He claimed he would return to escort me into his eternal presence.

So, my way to God is through Jesus is a big deal.

jesus13From THE WAY, I learn the way to follow. From THE TRUTH, I learn to distinguish the authentic from perceived truths. From THE LIFE, I learn how I am to live my life. From THE BREAD, I learn what sustains me. From THE LIGHT, I learn of my own wretchedness and flaws. From THE GATE, I learn the entry way to God. From THE GOOD SHEPHERD, I learn where to find safety and security. From THE TRUE VINE, I learn I must be grafted in to live and it provides juice to sustain.

From THE KING I learn to serve. From THE SON, I learn that Jesus is in the Father, the Father is in Jesus the Son, and Jesus is in me (John 14:20). Jesus is the one who unites. Jesus unites me to God.

Jesus1From Jesus flows God’s Kingdom, faith, baptism, grace, forgiveness, love, church, prayer, and hope. Significance, purpose, gratefulness, service, and direction flow from Jesus. From Jesus flows salvation and life eternal.

What’s the big deal about Jesus? He is God’s gift to me that makes it possible to know the heart of the Creator, to walk in harmony with that heart, and to know I am a child of His love.

The big deal about Jesus is that he claimed me.

To get life right, death right, Satan right, God right, and Jesus right, are five of the big deals that provide the foundation under my path. As I see it, there are two other.

I will explore the sixth big deal next. He claimed to give me his Holy Spirit to live inside of me to shine his light along my trail.

Stay tuned.
