By Faith We Are Not Afraid

GodReflection:Faith Certainties

Now faith is confidence in what we hope for and assurance about what we do not see. Hebrews 11:1

By faith he [Moses] left Egypt, not fearing the king’s anger; he persevered because he saw Him who is invisible. By faith he kept the Passover and the application of blood, so that the destroyer of the firstborn would not touch the firstborn of Israel.   By faith the people passed through the Red Sea as on dry land; but when the Egyptians tried to do so, they were drowned.

garyguarujaMoses was a leader. As the evening of the first Passover faded into darkness two realities stood evident.

Pharaoh was so mad at Moses and his God that he swore to kill Moses should they ever meet again.

The second reality was God remained in control and Moses was not afraid.

From his first sight of God in a bush set aflame through plague after plague and miracle after miracle brought by God upon Egypt, Moses grew in faith of the Almighty.

I suspect he had his moments of nervous stomach as he moved forward without fear. Yet, he had seen enough to know God was in complete control.

afraid3So he coated his doorpost with blood in complete confidence the death angel would Passover his house. Nor was he afraid to leave Egypt or to lead the people between the walls of the Red Sea.

That was then. Now is now. Can I like Moses move through life unafraid?

It makes me wonder why I haven’t been more fearless in my faith walk. I must admit over my seven decades of life I’ve seen God act time and again in big ways.

I’ve seen enough to know that God hasn’t lost His power. I’ve seen enough to make me wonder why I was not bolder at times and failed to fearlessly move forward by faith.

I’ve seen enough to know God is in complete control.afraid4

Uncertainty and turbulent times have clung to every page of history since the Adamic fall.

The here and now is not unique to history.

So here I am once again on history’s stage of uncertainty and turbulence. But within the chaos I have a pass key. I’ve been given the gift of security.

I’ve received confident assurance of my identity from Father, Son, and Spirit. I am both body and spirit. One is destructible the other is not.

afraid5Sure, my body will take a few blows during my walk. It will hurt at times and will eventually pass through death.

From the HOLY I am promised the presence of the Godhead as I encounter the rocks and threats along my trail. Because of faith—confident assurance—I move forward unafraid.

For Moses perseverance came from the presence of Him who is invisible. It is that same unchanging invisible presence that makes it possible to declare by faith we are not afraid.

Stay tuned.
