Even in his most desperate moment in the Garden, Jesus humbly asked God for a way out. He had spent a lifetime, at least the last three years of His life doing God’s will and following God’s ideas rather than creating new ideas himself. Yet, in his service to God and others, he created.

Jesus created healing of the body, mind, soul and spirit. No human at that point in history had been known to create such completeness in another person except Jesus, the Son of the Living God.
He never killed anyone. He never inflicted suffering on anyone. Rather, he relieved pain and suffering. We reflect him most when we are about the work of creating life in others through helping hands and encouraging words.
God has allowed creativity in humanity for his glory and our good. One may believe they are simply serving the Lord by obeying scripture and listening to their self-talk. Sometimes it’s not self-talk, but the still small voice of God via the work of the Holy Spirit.

And after the earthquake a fire, but the LORD was not in the fire. And after the fire the sound of a low whisper. And when Elijah heard it, he wrapped his face in his cloak and went out and stood at the entrance of the cave. And behold, there came a voice to him and said, “What are you doing here Elijah?” – 1 Kings 19:12-13/ESV
In the King James Version, the low whisper is called the still small voice. It is the voice that has never stopped speaking to the hearts of humans since the beginning of time. Scripture simply helps discern the voice within.

Jesus’ words, “thy will be done” are hard words, especially when Christ might have been able to create his way out of the cross. But instead, he chose the cross and gave up everything for me, for us, that God’s beautiful life, salvation, creativity and so much more may flow more fully in humanity.
It is because of the beautiful name of Jesus that anyone can be creative at all, whether professing Jesus or not. And the most creative things are beautiful and good, because it produces more of its kind.
I think of a childhood song that mesmerizes me each time I hear it sung.
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
There’s just something about that name
Master, savior, Jesus
Like the fragrance after the rain
Jesus, Jesus, Jesus
Let all Heaven and earth proclaim
Kings and kingdoms shall all pass away
But there’s something about that name

Jesus, thank you for showing us how to submit lovingly to the Father. May we all grow into your likeness more each day and use our creativity to honor you.
Amazing!
