For it is with your heart that you believe and are justified, and it is with your mouth that you profess your faith and are saved. -Romans 10:10/NIV
I heard this song for the first time last week and the line that stood out was, “…this time he went under for the Lord.”
It’s about the conversion of a man to Christ and the town’s rejoicing around his baptism.
I don’t think there is a greater thrill than to watch a soul give their lives to Christ and publically professing Christ by imitating the death, burial and resurrection of Christ.
On the mission field as a child it seemed there was a baptism or two at nearly every meeting. During those days both baptizer and the one baptized wore white. There was something striking and symbolic about that beautiful scene. Even a child could be moved about the beauty of all white clothing being worn by the one choosing to follow Christ for the first time.
It is still exciting to watch a baptism no matter the baptismal garment color. The truth still stands that a soul has now decided to not keep their faith private, to move it from privately staying safe to move out into a world that needs to hear the sweet name of Christ through the life of the renewed soul which is now alive in spirit.
The good news is redemption comes daily, mercies are new and the Holy Spirit of God through Christ can live in every heart who so wants to follow, no matter their past.
The following song after the above is Let Freedom Ring. Our God made our spirits to be alive and in love with Him.
Thank you Jesus for setting us free from the bondage that sin can bring. Thank you for clothing us with you, our Christ-clothing when we believe with our hearts and profess with our lips. May we remember that when we were baptized, we went under for You.
Amazing!
