The Only Ideal Worth Worshiping is Jesus

But there are also many other things which Jesus did; were every one of them to be written, I suppose that the world itself could not contain the books that would be written. -John 21:25

Though Jesus is seated at God’s right hand, books continue to be generated which reflect Him and His creation and their natural laws.

I suspect tomes will continue to be printed so long as we continue to let Jesus purify us and keep us aware of Him at every turn.

The other day I weeded through my bookshelf and kept only those whose spirit was grace-filled. Not that laws aren’t important, but without grace and love, rules become tyrannical. I once heard Josh McDowell say in a lecture series, “rules without relationship breed rebellion.”

Some books are about keeping up appearances. Believe me, if I always felt the way I looked on a good day, life would be seamless. But somedays it isn’t true, and I need Christ to align my insides and align with those on the outside in accountability to remind myself of God’s grace.

Don’t get me wrong. I love looking good on the outside and sometimes miss the days when we dressed up to fly on an airliner. There is something to be said about putting on one’s best outside that transforms us inwardly. But when we have those days of not being able to put on our best outside, and are doing our best, our insides need the reassurance that it, the soul and spirit are still loved and coveted by Holy God. This is our inner sanctuary, and all sanctuaries get rained on, or have physical ailments of some kind. But the inner sanctuary, ah, God is still there burning brightly.

Psychologically, it is the best place any human can be.

There is only one Jesus. And it’s not me, nor anyone I love dearly. Though I should treat others as if they are Jesus, as Christ says that as long as I do for the least of those around me, I am doing for Him.

Mine is not to “be” Jesus to others, but to “reflect” Jesus where I am. Mine is not to be the Bible, but to point others to God’s only Proven Compass that points back to Him in a way no man can.

It’s a lifelong project. It’s a lifelong journey. It’s a marathon, not a sprint.

It’s good for me to be my best self, and God will take care of the rest.

There was only one perfect one, Jesus.

And even Christ was being perfected this side of Heaven.

And having been perfected, He became the author of eternal salvation to all who obey Him. -Hebrews 5:9

Thankfully, the Bible is true. It breathes the Greatest Story ever told, and the only ideal worth worshiping.

Jesus.

Amazing!
