Ants are small and relatively unimportant; yet, Solomon said, “Go to the ant, O sluggard; consider her ways, and be wise. Without having any chief, officer, or ruler, she prepares her bread in summer and gathers her food in harvest” (Proverbs 6:6-8 – ESV). Ants teach us to be self-motivated, industrious, and time conscious.
Maybe ants and people are more alike than we think. For one thing, we’re both tiny creatures. Remember that photograph of Earth from outer space? Billions of people are on the round, bluish ball; but not a single one is visible in the photo. From outer space, we’re smaller than black ants in a sugar bowl.
We, of course, are worth more than ants. Jesus says one soul is worth more than the whole world. We are unbelievably, incredibly valuable in God’s sight because he made us in his image.
Ants teach us to think ahead and manage our situation. For weeks, millions have been unable to follow normal routines. What an opportunity to look at ourselves, identify areas for improvement, and create a plan of action for more meaningful lives.
There’s still time. Why not now?
