God Loves His Little Children

Love, Understanding, Compassion

Fearing people is a dangerous trap, but trusting the LORD means safety – Proverbs 29:25/NIV

It is one thing to not want to disappoint someone we love and respect. But what if Jesus asks us through God’s Word to go against something, or bring something new into today that appears to conflict with someone I love and respect?

Am I to obey the example of the person I love and respect to “ensure success”? Or have I just disobeyed Jesus?

It is said that children are good recorders but horrible interpreters. So can it not be said that we as adults, yet children of God may too be good recorders and bad interpreters of spiritual matters at times?

There have been times when I have sought the example of a seen human over the unseen Christ. Proverbs says we should only wage war after gathering with many counselors (Proverbs 24:6). We need human counsel, and the best is humble human counsel which is ultimately subject to Christ, whether waging war or making life-altering decisions.

Yet, sometimes we go with the folk wisdom from a well-loved relative or the words of admired leaders over the words of Jesus. Sometimes we simply need to ask, is this how Jesus would think and is this what Jesus would do?

I wish it were so easy to think and have a decision automatically make itself known. But that is the nature of questions, to meditate on options and hear the Holy Spirit’s culling out the wisest end result. The larger the consequence to one’s practical and spiritual eternity and that of others, the more time, research, prayer and preparation needs to be made.

And the ultimate Wise One is God Himself, seated at the left-hand of Christ, above all human wisdom. To the Greeks, wisdom is God. But to God, Jesus was known as wisdom.

And because of him you are in Christ Jesus, who became to us wisdom from God, righteousness and sanctification and redemption  – 1 Corinthians 1:30/ESV

Yet, God condescended Himself in the form of His Son, eternally enthroned today to God’s right-hand. Imagine, all of the universe’s power, glory and honor emanating from eternity come in flesh to have a conversation with us. God has nothing to gain. He has spiritual beings who already worship Him. Heaven is functional. And yet, God Himself desires his created beings called man to remain connected to Him.

I believe God created us simply because He loves us. I believe He was not lonely, for He was full of the Holy Spirit and accompanied by his perfectly begotten Son Jesus. I believe He simply wanted children to raise, whose hearts would chose Him in return to spend eternity with Him. And who in turn would be family and Wise counsel to one another while on this planet we call earth.

Amazing!
