GodReflection: Is Grace Still Amazing?

I wonder why grace is so difficult to describe.
Maybe it is just me, but it doesn’t seem like it serves as the center piece of current culture. I can’t recall lately when I’ve heard anyone attempt to describe it.
I would like to think most of us recognize grace when we see it in action. We may feel our exposure to grace isn’t in high doses. Might it be there is an element to grace we assume so naturally that we fail to see it as grace?

Our self-sufficient world comes with blinders that block the view of grace. When any good comes my way my first reaction is an attempt to attribute it to my own ingenuity or to justify the gift due to my own merit. When I do so, I miss the entirety of grace’s definition.
Inherent in its very nature is the reality that grace comes to the undeserved. If I deserve something it is not grace. If I generate any sort of goodness for self-gratification it is not grace.
Could it be that the tint of our cultural lens causes us to miss the view of ever-present grace that is more prevalent than we perceive?

To sit down and list possessions produced from my own skill would be an “eye-opener”—most likely nothing. Someone else built my car, my house and everything that is in it.
My level of participation is rather irrelevant. I would own nothing without the freewill (grace) of inventors and manufactures. So, on the physical level everything I own is graced to me.
However, this is even more significant when it comes to my existence called life. Life was given as a grace. I had nothing to do with my inception. My heartbeat and my breath are a grace of Creator God.
Some use “common grace” to identify this facet of God’s diamond. Yes, it may seem ordinary to us creatures—but it is special beyond description. Even these “common graces” should amaze me.

Then, there is God’s “ultimate” act of grace.
What he did through Jesus, the cross, the grave, and the resurrection to make forgiveness my possession. To know every sin I’ve committed (or will commit) is forgiven should cause me utter astonishment. Not to mention the grace of life eternal with the Holy.
What is this Grace about?
Over the next few posts, I want to circle around the gift of grace.
One aspect is to remind myself of the grace given to me by the Holy. Another desire is to plow deeper and to be amazed anew at the Celestial Gift of Grace issued by love resides freely in my soul through a Holy cost.
What exists in your life that you would place under the category of grace?
Stay tuned.
