Chaos Abounds

GodReflection: Has God Noticed?—The World Is In Chaos.

This new series of posts begins with what may sound more like a rant than the lament which I trust is more in step with my intent. I suspect it could easily strike a common nerve with you as you read over my shoulder.

I am tired of chaos. I am tired of chaos on the international scene. I am tired of the chaos in my nation. I am tired of the chaos in my state and in my city. I am tired of the chaos we have managed to generate over Covid-19. I am tired of the chaos it brings with death, division, and pain. I am tired of the chaos that plagues our schools, teachers, and the education of our children.

I am tired of the ever-present chaos that divides friends, families, and communities. I am tired of the divisive chaos in the body of Jesus—his church. I am tired of funerals and having lost more friends and family to death than the number of people I currently know. I am tired of the chaos that failing health brings into my life. Unfortunately, I could go on but since we are all members of humanity, I suspect none of this is unfamiliar with you. Forgive me God, but I am tired.

Surely, from time to time we wonder, has God notice—the world is in chaos?

The time seems right to stop and remind myself again of reality. Is the Holy still at work to redeem the chaos as Father, Son, and Spirit, transform the brokenness our world into the perfection of peace, calm and sinlessness? Reality comes when I back off and once more look at the entire canvas Creator God paints for us of his eternal purpose.

Over the next few weeks, I invite you to read over my shoulder as together we examine topics like the origin of chaos. Just who is God, and should I care? Can (will) I continue to trust an invisible God? Does God live in La La Land? Is God really in charge?  Is God really the one and only king who rules our world? Is God still interested in me?

I look forward to the exploration of these and other concepts found in Holy Scripture to help navigate our own turbulent time. It is probably good to remind ourselves that we are not the first to walk this path. Satanic chaos has stained every slice of history since humanity’s origin. Wars, death, division, pain, and pandemics are not a twenty-first century invention.

Do feel free to share your concerns, doubts, frustrations, and your own observations to help us all trek through the chaos. I commit to you to do my best to shine light along the way as we work toward the conviction that God reigns even now to eliminate chaos from our existence.

That last statement is loaded with promise. Do hold me to it. Let’s see where this all goes. What questions come to your mind?

Stay tuned.

Therefore I will boast all the more gladly of my weaknesses, so that the power of Christ may rest* upon me. For the sake of Christ, then, I am content with weaknesses, insults, hardships, persecutions, and calamities. For when I am weak, then I am strong.
