GodReflection: Has God Noticed? The World Is In Chaos.
My first airplane ride came after high school graduation. Away from home in a college dormitory and employed at a print shop to pay the bills, life was punctuated with new experiences and first-time adventures.
Bob Hoover the preacher at church enjoyed flying airplanes for recreation. I suspect he relished ministry opportunities when he could incorporate his skill. One Saturday I managed to receive an
invitation to fly with him from Lubbock to Dalhart, Texas where he was to speak at a youth rally, a popular event for the time. To give me confidence and a hard time on my first flight, I recall his first statement after takeoff: “I have the takeoff down but I’m still struggling with my landings.”
It never occurred to me the extent airplanes and control towers would play in my life. Four years later, back in Lubbock, Texas, seated in coach on a Braniff International Airliner with a Control Tower 
in sight from the plane window, I was ready for take-off to South America.
The next decades of my “work life” involved church formation for the Portuguese and Spanish-speaking world. To work toward that task l flew somewhere in the range of two million miles in those aerodynamic machines. However, never once did I visit a control tower where around the clock women and men guide the take-off, track, and land over two-hundred-fifty thousand aircraft daily as they assist pilots on mission in our world.
Let me shift gears. It is time to interface with the question, What On Earth Is Going On In Heaven?
Our Sacred Bible records the story of Holy God’s arrival on earth in human form as baby Jesus. This God-Jesus experiences life as a man placed on our planet to identify with our plight. In so doing he shows us the heart of God. A heart that overflows with love, care, and compassion for his creation.
Willingly, Father God, allows himself—as Jesus the Son—to die a sacrificial death for the sin of all humanity. In the process, he initiates ultimate control over Satanic chaos. His resurrection from the dead in his still nail-scarred human body demonstrates his control over both chaos and death.
King Jesus’ human assent to the heavens places him as ruler over all as he works to see God’s rule on earth diminish chaos to oblivion so Father, Son, and Spirit can descend to live visibly on The Holy’s restored chaos-free earth in the presence of their beloved creation. God became King and the risen human who is now King Jesus reigns to put life back to right. So, what on earth is going on in heaven with the human resurrected Jesus?
Back to our Control Tower. What if we envision the daily activity of King Jesus, from his elevated Throne Room Control Tower, to be the Holy self-assignment of chaos elimination?
Day and night he assist us in our flight to reduce chaos in the world. Around the clock his careful hand provides clear take-off on each mission. He tracks with care our flight route as we spread good to clear away chaos. At the close of each mission, he walks us through the descent and is with us as we land safely.
Constantly, King Jesus is awake and aware of all conditions on the planet. In the never-ending flight line are millions who compose his church always ready for the next assignment to take to the air to replace chaos with holy peace. From his body he performs his mission through our bodies. To us, as to Thomas and to those with him, Jesus commissions, “Peace be with you! Just as the Father has sent me, I send you.”
Then one day after countless millions of joint missions have made a significant dent in the world’s 
chaos; King Jesus will descend with his nail scarred body to reign and walk visibly among us as Father, Son, and Spirit. The Holy will take the final step to lock away Satanic chaos and declare to us mission accomplishes. Then, free of chaos we will begin to explore a new dimension of the Holy’s blessing as we live in complete unity on our once again pristine earth.
Let us awake each morning ready to fly out on a mission of peace. We stand confident King Jesus is in the Control Tower. Thus, we are anxious to confront the chaos of today, in expectation of safe landing at the close of each joint mission. Isn’t that our assignment? Is not that What On Earth Is Going On In Heaven?
