What On Earth Am I Here For?

GodReflection: Has God Noticed? The World Is In Chaos.

Seems like a good morning to reflect. I suspect most of us human-types voice or at least silently wonder, what am I here for? How sad it is to feel the emptiness when no answer seems adequate.

May I suggest the key to unlock this question, perhaps raised more than any other in the history of humankind, is found in the resurrection of Jesus. Every event in our Bible prior to Jesus’ resurrection led to the empty tomb. The risen human-Jesus breaks out of the tomb to begin his new creation. It was the moment that began his I am making everything new”.

The remainder of our New Testament record after the resurrection event is the story of Jesus’ invitation to be coworkers with him. As Paul describes our task to Ephesian Christians, we are God’s handiwork, created in Christ Jesus for a life of good works that God had prepared for us to do (Ephesians 2:10).

In this post’ series my attempt is to explore with greater clarity my Jesus’ assigned work. It is to be done jointly with him—my Bodily Resurrected King. Together we are to clear chaos from this current world. It is a temporary task while I look forward to the final resurrection.

At that time my body will change, as did the resurrected Jesus, into a perfect human body far beyond anything I can possibly imagine. When the new resurrection occurs, The Holy will descend to live with me on a recreated earth, fresh and chaos free in its final renewal remake.

So, what on earth am I here for? I see my mission as two-fold.

First, Jesus’ desire for each one of us is that we grow to reflect his holiness while we walk on planet earth. We do so by living out of our own baptismal resurrection. We rely on The Supper, constant contact through Prayer, continual growth fueled from a life immersed in Scripture, and allow Divine Love to penetrate our hearts by His Spirit so that authentically we can Love one another, as I have loved you.

Second, fueled by resurrection power, my commission as a Jesus’ follower is to partner with him to clear chaos. My purpose is to reflect light on the path of every person I encounter. Constantly, I must remind myself to treat every clerk, every telephone operator, the person who solves my computer problems, and EVERYONE with dignity and respect. Each encounter sheds a little light and reduces Satanic chaos from someone’s path.

As a part of my partnership with Jesus to reduce chaos, I want to do better to fulfil his desire that I introduce others to The Holy. For, it is only when each of us place our lives under the influence of Father, Son, and Spirit, that Satanic chaos is cleared from the human path. Remember, the task prior to the return of Jesus is chaos reduction not total clearance.

As I reflect let me close today’s post with a reminder from Paul as he writes from his prison cell. In one very short sentence he offers hope and courage to guide our chaos clearance, for it is God who works in you to will and to act in order to fulfill his good purpose (Philippians 2:13).

Whatever our role in life happens to be, teacher, artist, retired, student, unemployed, politician, police, (we all fit no matter our tag) we each have opportunity and dare I say obligation to clear (not create) chaos. Isn’t that what on earth we are here for?

Stay tuned.
