Holy Space Within The Living Invisible

GodReflection:

How can we better align our hearts to become more aware of the Holy Space that Creator God offers us through Life With The Living Invisible?

There are times when I find it insightful to reread my thoughts from the past and see that The Holy has gifted me with a new green leaf or two of growth from where I started. Today’s post is generated by such a reread from twelve years ago.

God is Holy. Whatever glow of holiness that is attached to our lives comes from our attempt to live within the Holy Shadow cast from The Living Invisible Presence. Our task is to clear the debris fields we create, so that we encounter the Holy Space of God.

We cannot create Holy Space. God is Holy so Holy Space is His. It comes from His Nature. What we can do is align our hearts and our ‘to do lists’ to better experience the Holy. Let me suggest three areas we can adjust in our personal space so that we move into The Holy Space of The Living Invisible Presence more easily.

First, we can make structured space in our lives to encounter The Living Invisible. At about the midpoint of my “working life” I wanted to become a daily reader of God’s Word for my own growth and obedience rather than the primary use of my Bible as a book to share the Holy with others.

However, none of the annual read-through Bible programs had ever worked for me. I would get behind and discouraged, never to catch up—so I would give up in frustration.

Then I discovered I can take the number of pages in my Bible and divide them by the three hundred sixty-five days in a year; so that at a pace of three pages per day (about three chapters) I can allow the entirety of God’s written word to flow through my mind each year. The key was to start my day with Scripture at a set time and place. That moves my mind into Holy Space.

On days when my attention span is a challenge, I may read a chapter and close my Bible. Then there are the days I get involved in the adventures of David, Elijah, Jesus, or Paul, and I read several pages to take in the entire story.

When I first started, I didn’t worry if I completed my reading during the year. For the first two or three times through Scripture, it took me 15 to 18 months as I attempted to keep my daily three chapters pace. That was OK. At least I was creating space in my life to get through Scripture and closer to the Holy Space of The Invisible Presence.

What has turned out to be more valuable than I could have ever imagined is I have created structured space in my life to encounter The Living Invisible.

Second, we can use Car Space to come to know The Invisible Presence. I am not one who synchronizes my ignition switch to the radio. When I enter the car alone the space is quiet. Living in a large metropolitan area, windshield time lends itself to Holy Space.

It is not a good idea to drive and pray with your eyes closed. However, while I am in transit I chatter to God, think about Kingdom matters, sing, reflect on struggled, or perhaps think on ways I can better align my life with God. Car space helps me be conscious of Holy Space.

If your car is loaded with friends, family, or soccer kids, every seat can move toward The Invisible Holy Space Presence, by the direction of your kindness, thankfulness, and joy as you lead the conversation.

Third, we can become more aware that regardless of location, quiet space in our lives helps us to become better acquainted with The Living Invisible. In this area I continue to see progress. Previously, I mentioned that the world is God’s world, and He is omnipresent. He is The Living Invisible.  He is in jail cells and walks throughout bustling cities.

In my younger, more active years, I found times of solitude in nature conducive to my own awareness of Holy Space. When I was serving as CEO of a non-profit entity, I would spend one week a year in the mountains of northern New Mexico. It served to clear away life’s fog. The cool night air, the breeze in the trees, the stars, mountain creeks, all served to help me be more intensely aware of God. It was refreshing to pause in Holy Space.

As I near my own finish line that type of Holy Space is no longer within my reach. However, I find Holy Space with The Living Invisible is always nearby. He never leaves us.

What are your reflections? How do you live within the Holy Space of The Living Invisible?

Stay Tuned.
