My Mountains Aren’t Your Mountains

GodReflection: Walking Into The Unknown.

Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters—a pathway no one knew was there (Psalms 77:19).

Last week we reflected upon the reality that the older we are, with age deterioration, the harder become our challenges as we Walk into The Unknown of each new day.

Today, it seems like a good time to focus our attention on Satan’s skill as an evil mountain builder. He never creates two obstacles the same. Therefore, my mountains aren’t your mountains.

Is it possible that as our life’s walk moves us farther down our road each day, our own steps absorb us so intensely that we pay little attention to the specifics of the challenges of others?

Sure, there are the difficulties you have with your children’s decisions, the job losses, transportation problems, there is your sickness, the health decline of a spouse, death, and a gazillion other mountains Satan erects in your path. But still, your mountains are not my mountains, and My Mountains Aren’t Your Mountains.

The fact is there is no way I will be able to understand completely your difficulties. I can see only partially your problems. And, since you are not me, you cannot comprehend fully the hardship I face. Sounds pretty much like we are each on our own, doesn’t it? My Mountains Aren’t Your Mountains.

Then Asaph, the director of Israel’s music, once again provides a clue. It is an optimistic and realistic assessment of each of our realities. Gladly Holy God does what he loves and loves what he does. He has a gift for us as his beloved children. It’s a secret path.

Your road led through the sea, your pathway through the mighty waters—a pathway no one knew was there (Psalms 77:19).

A pathway no one knew was there, completely hidden before. Like water that gushes suddenly from the rock, God provides a unique pathway, especially designed to get you through your mountain and another secret passage to walk me through my mountain. It’s a pathway no one knew was there.

Allow me to make this observation.

Back to the Satan the evil mountain builder. The path through the Devil’s mountains—even though provided by Holy God is still a mountain trail. Remember, those trails are cut through the evil terrain of Adam’s and Eve’s disobedience. They will always be difficult to walk. We are not yet on the restored earth.

Father, Son, and Spirit stand ready to walk those hard trails with us. On your mountains and on my mountains as we travel with him along the pathway no one knew was there he grows us more like each one in the Godhead.

Ok, so My Mountains Aren’t Your Mountains, and your mountains aren’t my mountains, but the fantastic news is God’s secret path that he opens for each of us. He does it for you and for me.

I think back to John, the apostles often used self-description of “the one who Jesus loves.” Remember it is a self-descriptor. No other person referred to him, their fellow apostle and friend, in that manner.

That is exactly who we are. You and I can each claim the same designation as “the one who Jesus loves.” There is no better identity, don’t you think! And, as the one who Jesus loves he provides each of us with our own secret path through our Satan-erected individual mountains.

Stay tuned.
