GodReflection: Walking Into The Unknown.
And how blessed all those in whom you live, whose lives become roads you travel. They wind through lonesome valleys, come upon brooks, discover cool springs and pools brimming with rain! God-traveled, these roads curve up the mountain, and at the last turn—Zion! God in full view! (Psalms 84:5-7)
Today is the seventh in a sequence of eight posts on challenges we face as each of us walk into the unknown.
My excitement and great anticipation of what happens after my earth life’s sun has set the final time draw me back to the first post in this series
It is that walk into the unknown I so eagerly anticipate, and the one God’s Holy Scripture tells me just enough about to cause my enthusiastic anticipation.
Remember, I shared with you that I’m not going to heaven up in the sky to live for eternity as I have been led to believe, but I will take up residence on our cleansed and renewed earth when God will descend to live with me forever.
When I read the Bible’s accounts of Jesus’ new resurrected body that could now walk through walls, pop into conversations, walk beside others on the Emmaus Road, enjoy a good meal, and continue in relationship with those he knew prior to his death, I begin to envision what is on my horizon.
At times on my path that reality comes even nearer as I Walk Into The Unknown. For example, there was the long phone call I had one night with a close friend, now in his 90’s, who I’ve known for almost six decades. While we talked, we gave updates on the health issues of our wives, and on our current worn out bodies, the conversation flowed toward the next life on the new earth.
Just a few days before, a mutual friend’s daughter advised us of his death. Together we hurt over our loss while we rejoiced over his victory. We laughed and reminisced about the fun times we had enjoyed with him and with so many he now joins.
We spoke of God’s goodness that awaits his children in eternity. Surely, our expectation of rich coffee and our pleasure of instant time for us to meet around eternal tables will be included.
Early the next day, in my walk-through Scripture my eyes met this verse in the Wisdom Literature: Congenial conversation—what a pleasure! The right word at the right time—beautiful! (Proverbs 15:23) I couldn’t help but smile as warm thoughts resurfaced in my heart from the phone call just prior to drifting off to sleep. It is true – I just Can’t Wait For The End.
Once more I return to the songs of Israel as they sang out their mighty expectations of God’s promises in song: how blessed all those in whom you live, whose lives become roads you travel. They wind through lonesome valleys, come upon brooks, discover cool springs and pools brimming with rain! God-traveled, these roads curve up the mountain, and at the last turn—Zion! God in full view! (Psalms 84:5-7)
To be with God and see him in full view will be far beyond what my limited human self can imagine. It’s true. Can’t Wait For The End.
Stay tuned.
