Matthias Steps In To Fill A Vacant Spot

GodReflection: A Brand-New Life And Have Everything To Live For.

Matthias the Apostle, was the only disciple who wasn’t called by Jesus in a direct encounter, to be one of his original Apostles. Instead, the other disciples chose him to replace Judas Iscariot after he betrayed Jesus then took his own life when he learns his actions made it possible to condemn Jesus to death.

Judas’s feeling of guilt was more than he could take. Matthew, the businessman, attempts to share with us how Judas felt and his sense of shame.

Early in the morning, all the chief priests and the elders of the people made their plans how to have Jesus executed. So, they bound him, led him away and handed him over to Pilate the governor.

When Judas, who had betrayed him, saw that Jesus was condemned, he was seized with remorse and returned the thirty pieces of silver to the chief priests and the elders. “I have sinned,” he said, “for I have betrayed innocent blood.”

“What is that to us?” they replied. “That’s your responsibility.” So, Judas threw the money into the temple and left. Then he went away and hanged himself. (Matthew 25: 1-5).

Matthias is only mentioned as an Apostle when the remaining eleven meet to replace Judas Iscariot. In those days Peter stood up among the believers (a group numbering about a hundred and twenty) and said, “Brothers and sisters, the Scripture had to be fulfilled in which the Holy Spirit spoke long ago through David concerning Judas, who served as guide for those who arrested Jesus. He was one of our number and shared in our ministry.”

Therefore, it is necessary to choose one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us.  For one of these must become a witness with us of his resurrection.

So, they nominated two men: Joseph called Barsabbas (also known as Justus) and Matthias. Then they prayed, “Lord, you know everyone’s heart. Show us which of these two you have chosen to take over this apostolic ministry, which Judas left to go where he belongs.” Then they cast lots, and the lot fell to Matthias; so, he was added to the eleven apostles. (Acts 1:21-26).

Like some of our previous mystery Apostles, we are told practically nothing about Matthias. Doctor Luke records that the replacement for Judas must be one of the men who have been with us the whole time the Lord Jesus was living among us, beginning from John’s baptism to the time when Jesus was taken up from us.  be a person who followed Jesus from the day Jesus was baptized by John the Baptist. (Acts 1: 21-12). Once again it is time for some Biblical speculation.

As one of the Twelve, Matthias would have been among the first Christians to receive the Holy Spirit. That places him among those who play an important role in launching the movement which became the world’s largest religion.

Since Matthias was with Jesus from the beginning, I suspect he was one of the 72 Jesus sent out by pairs in (Luke 10).

“After this the Lord appointed seventy-two others and sent them two by two ahead of him to every town and place where he was about to go.” (Luke 10:1).

Yes, we find ourselves without much information about Matthias Who Steps In To Fill A Vacant Spot. However, we can be sure he too was ready for the task Jesus had waiting for him. For like his fellow Apostles, with them they all found in Jesus A Brand-New Life And Have Everything To Live For.

Stay tuned.
