GodReflection: God Enters the World as Love

Show and Tell Day was a big deal for our children. They drug us into the assignment as we search the home archives for interesting objects.

Once the identified treasure arrived in front of the classroom, every little eye peered with great expectation.

The Show and Tell for God is His love.

The object is His treasured Son.

The Son contains the DNA of the Father and the reflection of His love.

Here is what I think.

From the beginning of time, God’s children heard of His love. Sure, they could witness it by seeing His power demonstrated on their behalf.

What they hadn’t experienced was the touch.

Then, God enters the world through Jesus.

Jesus made the touch of God a reality. People witnessed Jesus touching, healing, feeding, weeping, and caring, as God’s love flowed forth.

This show of God’s love entering the world was only the trailer. The movie was the crucifixion, resurrection, and ascension.

Love meant death, an empty tomb, and a waiting Jesus.

It took a “Show and Tell” demonstration from the beginning to the end of the Gospels for the people to understand the full extent to which God entered the earth as love.

There is a reason John was the disciple who Jesus loved. Perhaps more than anyone else, John was the quickest to understand the heart of Jesus.

John shows me the meaning of God’s entrance upon the dirt of earth in the form of love. I need to listen closely to his explanation:

This is how we know what love is: Jesus Christ laid down his life for us.

This is how God showed his love among us: He sent his one and only Son into the world that we might live through him. This is love: not that we loved God, but that he loved us and sent his Son as an atoning sacrifice for our sins. Dear friends, since God so loved us, we also ought to love one another. No one has ever seen God; but if we love one another, God lives in us and his love is made complete in us.

Can I hear it?

God entered the world through Jesus that He might show me His unlimited love by the death of Jesus to atone for every one of my sins. God entered the world as love.

Now I await the final advent of God.

Because I believe what He did through Jesus and the love He has for me, I can wait in complete peace of spirit in anticipation of His breaking into history one final time.

When Christ returns, Love that once walked dusty streets will take me to a new earth with a new heaven to live forever in the presence of God’s love.

Talk about a show and tell day that will be worth the wait.
