God Enters the World to Save

GodReflection: God Enters the World to Save

In the Beginning was the Word and the Word was with God and the Word Was God. – John 1:1

aboutI suspect Adam and Eve felt loss to a degree I cannot comprehend.

Only they experienced the contrast of complete fulfillment of every need with God contrasted to the indescribable loss of His presence.

Life for them began in a perfect garden and ended in a world stained by Satan.

As the garden gate closed leaving perfection behind, God determined to save humankind from the grip of Satan.

The story line of history begins with the angel standing guard at the gate to the garden. Sin cannot live in the presence of a perfect God. Satan’s commitment is to destruction while God promises salvation and restoration to flawlessness of His prize creation.

Millenniums of preparation passed.

In God’s perfect timing He enters the world through Jesus to save.

John’s Gospel describes the event:

The true light that gives light to everyone was coming into the world. He was in the world, and though the world was made through him, the world did not recognize him. He came to that which was his own, but his own did not receive him. Yet to all who did receive him, to those who believed in his name, he gave the right to become children of God—children born not of natural descent, nor of human decision or a husband’s will, but born of God.

The Word became flesh and made his dwelling among us. We have seen his glory, the glory of the one and only Son, who came from the Father, full of grace and truth.

I try to comprehend what this means for me.

I am old enough to recognize loss.

I see the destruction of Satan in every direction. I see far too much of his work in my own life. I see loss that occurs through sin. I feel the loss that occurs through death.

I am weary of death. I am tired of living in a state of decay on a degenerate earth. My body hurts. I see a lack of sharpness in my brain.

I hurt for the little ones born into poverty of soul and body because wicked people don’t give a ripe as to consequence of their actions. I feel a deep sadness when I see rejected children on television longing for a “forever family.”

Daily newscasts bring into my living room the death and deprivation of innocent people ravaged by war across the face of the globe.

I’m ready for salvation.

I’ve seen enough results of salvation to make me thirsty for more. I want to see the spirit of Jesus spread across our world to save. Only God’s saving power through Jesus addresses loss.

Here I stand in December as a follower of Jesus. I’ve seen glimpses of His power. I believe He can and does address loss in this life. That is enough to carry me to the advent of God.

I await God’s final advent.

He will enter the world to complete what He started in the manger. God will save His creation. It will be worth the wait.

Stay tuned.
