GodReflection: Power Words

garyguarujaI thank God that I live in a time and in a place where the cross isn’t a means of execution.

I am among the ones who had no interest in watching The Passion of the Christ. The trailer of the graphics was more than I wanted to see. I accept the story of the Gospels and the accounts of history that death by the cross is too wretched to describe.

cross1The one and only Son of God died on a cross outside of the gates of Jerusalem for living a perfect sinless life. His death made the cross a common symbol for all believers.

Because I follow Jesus, cross stands beside the word resurrection, as one of the most powerful words in my vocabulary.

cross6The cross of Jesus casts an enormous shadow. The shade caused by the shadow gives refuge from the fires of hell to believers on every continent.

I find power in the cross as I move toward the finish line of my earthly existence.

I encounter three gifts within the shadow of the cross. All three gifts stretch every ounce of my human capacity to understand.

I find complete forgiveness within its shadow.

That’s big.

John reassures me:We know that anyone born of God does not continue to sin; the One [Jesus]who was born of God keeps them safe, and the evil one cannot harm them. All wrongdoing is sin, and there is sin that does not lead to death. But if we walk in the light, as he is in the light, we have fellowship with one another, and the blood of Jesus, his Son, purifies us from all sin.

cross5Translation—as long as I walk in the shadow of the cross the blood of Jesus purifies my Adam genes and supplies complete forgiveness. Through Jesus blood, I live without sin in the eyes of God. That makes cross a powerful reminder to thrive and survive each day.

Complete forgiveness leads me to a second gift found in the shadow of the cross.

It is the gift of gratitude.

May God save me from the possibility of a lack of gratitude.

Once again I look within my human confines and realize I can never be as grateful as the cross gift merits. The God who knows all of my limitation that result from the fall of the Garden couple understands.

The third gift found within the comforting shade of the cross is the eternal city. I find it interesting how much time I spend in anticipation of the new earth with its new heaven. I am sure age and body deterioration play a role.

There is no doubt that my life on earth runs parallel to God’s Rolex. My intent is to enjoy this good earth and serve from its stage at the will of the Creator. However, it is a magnificent thought to realize God is preparing an eternal city free of pain and stocked with the wonders and gifts only He can create. The Almighty Father grants me access by living within the shadow of the cross.

I would be interested to know what meaning the cross holds for you as a word of power. How do you keep it in sight as you navigate life on earth?

Stay tuned.
