I’m Tired of Loss

GodReflection: Power Words

It’s a promise: “He will wipe every tear from their eyes. There will be no more death or mourning or crying or pain, for the old order of things has passed away.” He who was seated on the throne said, “I am making everything new!” Rev. 21:4-5

I can’t just read my Bible and declare, “Ok, I’ve got it. I understand.” It is more than just a little bit arrogant to read the Bible and conclude I have obtained all truth.

loss4Were I in the business of Bible Publication, I would emboss the entire cover with a pattern of jigsaw puzzle pieces. The puzzle makes a wonderful visual aid to help me understand God.

I like the visual image of an old and worn canvass single strap shoulder bag filled with puzzle pieces to accompany me on my life’s walk.  To know God—and reflect Him—is the key objective of my presence.

loss18With life experience, constant exposure to Scripture, and continual learning from others, I reach into my bag and insert a new puzzle piece with each ‘Aha’ moment.

My God puzzle moves toward a more complete picture.

I am closing in on seven decades of life.  I am tired of death.

My exposure to death increases with each additional year. Many of the great influences on my life no longer reside on earth. The longer I live the more death will raise its ugly head.

loss9I’m tired of loss.

Change and loss comes with my Adamic state. Life is a series of losses. Friendships, pets, former homes, cities, and churches, fall prey to life’s losses. Life moves on as it leaves loss along the way.

A major factor that keeps me going is my expectation.

I look to time when loss will be in the rearview mirror. That in itself makes loss a power word.

Each time I suffer loss I think of the future. I think of a land where degeneration and death exists no more.

loss2I lament my past nebulous view of eternal life after my earth walk. I now begin to see Scripture as sharing a grand view of the new earth with its new heaven.

Here’s how I currently envision a future without loss.

In God’s time, I will begin life on a new earth under the glory of a new heaven. All will be fresh and new. There will not be a scent of death nor decay. I will live in my familiar—yet eternal and perfect—body.

Unfathomable love and joy will be my constant companion. Relationships will be rich. Lies, pain, deception, crime, fear; for that matter, every form of evil will be absent.

I will experience living to perfection Jesus’ Sermon on the Mount.

I will reflect the light of Jesus to the fullest degree possible. I look forward to an awareness of life wrapped inside the perfect will of God. I anticipate I will understand the meaning of “Thy Will be done as in heaven.”

loss15To be meek, merciful, free from worry, and pure in heart, will finally be attainable. I can hardly wait to live with no darkness at all in my soul.

Daily I will feast on the bread of Jesus.

Perhaps loss has a value if it helps to focus my life on the eternal.

Stay tuned.
