Worship as a Lifestyle

GodReflection: Power Words

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; – Psalms 95:6

garyguarujaThe four walls of our churches limit worship.

I find it to be a constant battle to refrain from buying what culture has for sale. A case at point is worship.

Through millenniums, centuries, and decades, worship has shrunk to one day a week in a group setting following routine forms.

I lament the lack of richness in my own practice.

I need to listen more closely to the creatures of heaven as they cry, “‘Holy, holy, holy is the Lord God Almighty,’ who was, and is, and is to come.”

My lifestyle must incorporate worship 24/7.worship3

I am to worship God for sunrises and sunsets. I am to worship God for the heat of summer and the cold of winter. I am to worship God for the energy of the day and for the rest found in darkness.

I am to worship God for good found in blessings and for the not so obvious good found in trials.

I am to worship God for health and for growth and witness that occurs through trust in His care during illness.

Singing and praying are worship—yet worship is so much more.

worship1Worship is to spend the thoughts, words, and deeds of our earthly walk as the Psalmist express it—I want to bow down in worship, and to kneel before the Lord my Maker.

Worship is a word of power to guide my daily activities.

I came across four quotations pointing to power that comes from “outside the building” worship.

“Without worship, we go about miserable. . . .We must never rest until everything inside us worships God.” A. W. Tozer

“We only learn to behave ourselves in the presence of God.” – C. S. Lewis

“Worship changes the worshiper into the image of the One worshiped”
Jack Hayford

“Worship has been misunderstood as something that arises from a feeling which ‘comes upon you,’ but it is vital that we understand that it is rooted in a conscious act of the will, to serve and obey the Lord Jesus Christ.”
Graham Kendrick

Over the next several weeks, I want to explore words of power that either flow into worship or find their power from worship.

worship13I invite you to read over my shoulder. Do send input as I attempt to make worship a more comprehensive expression of my own gratitude to God and the inexpressive awe that surrounds the one who merits the cry, “Holy, holy, holy.”

Stay tuned.

  1. I am looking forward to this series! I particularly like the quote from Graham Kendrick for the very reason that is what I have come to believe….it is a conscious act of will!

  2. Thanks, dear Gary, for your efforts to make “worship” real and constant for all of us. I agree with what you wrote and surely need more words, more help to remember that all of my living is to worship God. His blessings on you!
