GodReflection: Power Words

Come, let us bow down in worship, let us kneel before the Lord our Maker; – Psalms 95:6

I loved Solomon’s acknowledgement that our brick and glass temples are too small to encompass God’s presence.

I also like the idea that my response to God is worship. The more I come to know of God the more I see the only legitimate response is worship.

When the apostles encountered God through the resurrected Jesus, they were awe stricken. There response was to go tell the nations.

When the persecuted church left Jerusalem as they were going they upheld the risen Jesus in worship and told others along the way.

Worship is an act of honor and homage. It is an act of respect and love. It is an act of extravagance and devotion. It is an act of reverence and adoration.

Historically, I’ve use the word mission as a synonym for the word go.

I wonder if the word worship might not be a better synonym for the word go?

In that sense go becomes a power word that drives my walk.

The exhilaration of boarding a Braniff International Airline Jet bound for Brazil in 1969 continues with me. I couldn’t have been more excited at the prospect of residency in Brazil.

It was my first real job. I was going as a disciple of Jesus. Is it too much of a stretch to call that an act of worship?

Here is what I think.

Life flew by.

Age and health are such that I no longer board planes. My going is more apt to be via computer keyboard, telephone, and short jaunts from my home.

Is it possible to think of go as worship when I travel over the internet and in my forays into the community?

It seems to me as long as my life proceeds under the veil of Godhead there is a sense that all go is worship. It is an acknowledgement that God is the reason behind my drive.

Is it too far out to think that each time I interface with another human being, or each time I am in transit I go in the name of God?

As I go I want to be conscious of my example. I want to be aware of needs and opportunities to be light. Is it too much to offer my mundane go as worship?

Here’s my rant for the day:

Culture attempts to sell the need to divide my life into the secular and divine. Such a duel view of life’s walk makes no sense. I live either under the divine shadow of God or under the secular fraud of Satan.

I choose to honor God rather than Satan so go and worship join at the hip as divine power.

Thus, to go anywhere—under the banner of the divine—is to worship.
