Path Words to the Holy: Thinker

GodReflection: Power Words

garyguarujaSurely, God wired me from birth as a thinker. Some call it daydreaming.

My mom stood amazed at the length of time it took me to put on socks each morning. It was an important part of the process for my mind to wonder between the right sock and the left. The world needed sorted as my day started. (Some things don’t change.)

Over a lifetime, it seems my mind increased its propensity to think and wonder. I am therefore I think,

I think when I am alone and I think when in a crowd—seldom do my thoughts focus on the subject at hand. My daughter lovingly accuses me of dwelling under a rock.thinker12 Age glosses over my childhood daydreaming with a kinder coat of miracle paint that turns daydreaming into reflection, or the idea I like most—to ponder.

That’s what thinkers do. We ponder.

We wonder. We reflect. We question. We query. We explore. We meditate. We assimilate. We examine. We ponder.

Tradition is never enough. We like to think for ourselves. To think demands soul freshness.

The goal of Christ followers is to move into proximity of the Holy with the expectation for a dab of Holy glory to dust our souls.

The pathway we take is dependent upon how God wired us. Some move close to God primarily through service, some primarily through spontaneous expression, and still others primarily through song.

thinker10My primary path word is thinker. All other paths play a lesser role in my trek across life.

As a follower of the Way of Jesus, I place the act of continual thinking beneath the umbrella of the Holy in an attempt to know Father, Son, and Holy Spirit.

It is my primary pathway to the Holy. I like the expression of the apostle Paul; we take captive every thought to make it obedient to Christ

I follow other pathways through God’s forest. However, the thinker pathway requires little effort. It is as if God made me to ponder. I receive confirmation from David who sought the heart of God; on my bed I remember you; I think of you through the watches of the night.

Jesus mother, Mary lived without answers. Luke tells me; Mary treasured up all these things and pondered them in her heart. Upon the birth of the Christ child, she found herself sorting out meaning. From what we know of Mary, her thoughts swirled around God.

Dear Holy God,

May each of your children discover the pathway that leads to you.

I pray for those wired as thinkers. May we walk this pathway in total humility. I thinker11recognize that my thoughts are not always correct. Please bless a heart that seeks relationship with you and overlook my wrong conclusions.

My prayerful desire is that each day my thoughts bring me in closer harmony with the Holy.

Through the name of Jesus, I pray.

Amen.

Stay tuned.

  1. Very good article my brother! Besides the ‘pondering’ comments, which are very insightful and helpful, what also impacted me was the recognition that others are ‘wired’ differently in terms of how they most naturally and easily seek the Master (maybe Mary and Martha give us some insight here?)…as you have said in other articles, we historically have been very dominant on the ‘thinker’ side, pretty much ‘putting at naught’ other seekers who are wired differently…they either fall in line, or ‘hit the highway’…oh wel, enough ‘pondering’ on my part for now…do keep trying to figure out the difference between your right sock and your left…let me know when you get it figured out…Ken
