Can I Short-Circuit My Holy DNA?

GodReflection: News Flash—We Inherited God’s DNA

garyguarujaIt was probably twenty-plus years ago, I came across a quartz heater with two seventeen inch glowing tubes to warm my writing space during the winter months.

Years of use, storage, moves and plug-unplug activity over a quarter of a circuit1century takes its toll. Two winters ago, I did a rapid plug-unplug maneuver as sparks made loud cracks and flew from the base.

Webster tells me I experienced a short-circuit, the failure of electricity to flow properly in a circuit because the wires or connections in the circuit are damaged or not connected properly. Mr. Webster got that one right.

An electrical circuit had traveled along an unintended path. With a dismantle, rewire and a little black electrical tape I was back to the comfort zone.

Like my quartz heater I started out with new circuitry.

circuit7When I breathed in the air from my first entrance into the birth room it gave life to a little holy body stained by Adam and Eve’s garden sin.

When I took my first breath at 2:35 that winter afternoon I took in life from the Holy breath God breathed into my DNA.

Over the past several post I have been awed and humbled to realize that Almighty Creator God shared His DNA with me. To see God through the microscope Jesus I come to appreciate even more the source of my own make up.

To whatever degree love, eternity, worship and repentance are found in my life it can only be present because God implanted His very own DNA in me.

dna3The reason I desire an eternal home, my constant battle with forgiveness, whatever ability I have to gift others, my capacity to think and the freewill I have to set the direction of my walk can all be traced back to God DNA.

So here is the reality of every human being who has ever lived on planet earth: We all begin life wired with God’s DNA and we all begin life with Satan nipping at our heels.

We have DNA from Creator God that allows His love flow to beamed in our direction. From that same DNA, we receive the freewill to accept and return His love or to turn away from His face. The decision is mine to make.

circuit9There is a wire I can clip to short-circuit the flow of God’s DNA. The Apostle John calls it the one sin that definitely leads to death (1 John 5:16-17).

In the middle of the Hebrew preacher’s sermon he gives me a clue to the sin that cuts me from God’s Holy circuit-the one sin that leads to death. This circuit breaker—purposely thrown—is fatal. It cuts me off from God’s power:

circuit12It is impossible for those who have once been enlightened, who have tasted the heavenly gift, who have shared in the Holy Spirit, who have tasted the goodness of the word of God and the powers of the coming age and who have fallen away, to be brought back to repentance.

To their loss they are crucifying the Son of God all over again and subjecting him to public disgrace (Hebrews 6:4-6).

The Message’s paraphrases the latter half of the passage as:

If then they turn their backs on it, washing their hands of the whole thing, … Why, they’ve re-crucified Jesus! They’ve repudiated Him in public!

circuit17The only way I can stop the flow of Holy DNA in my veins is to turn my back on Him. To break eye and heart contact with the Holy, place my spirit and my legs in motion and walk away.

I think I will stick around and keep walking in His direction.

Stay tuned.
