What On Earth Is God Up To?

GodReflection: Has God Noticed? The World Is In Chaos.

Nine years ago, I opened the GodReflection blog with the observation that our walk with Christ-Jesus grows through three stages. We learn to prepare, we learn to be productive, and we learn to be. The basic idea is we never cease to grow.

For those of us introduced to Jesus early in life we may find these stages correlate to our youth, our work years, and then to our sunset years. We spent the first third of our life in preparation, the middle stage doing, and now the final third in being. Certainly, there is overlap in the process. To grow and to learn is the common vein that runs through the walk of faith.

Hang with me. I do have a point in mind. I find it relatively easy to recall and reflect upon the earlier period of preparation. Also, I remember the intensity that went into the early mornings, late long hours, the travel, the activity, and the demands of production prior to retirementall of which now rests in past tense.

That brings me to what has transpired under my rock since my retirement years. With the aid of the GodReflection Blog I invest a lot of time and effort to reflect on The Holy. The result morphs into an attempt
to clarify what I believe. By the way, I suspect this to be a process that never reaches full completion over our journey through life. I trust that to be in line with what Peter the apostle, in his own sunset years, affirmed to first century believers and to us today as he encourages us to grow in the grace and knowledge of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ (2 Peter 3:18).

With all of that as background, and with the reality of all the chaos we face daily in our world, I reflect on the question, What On Earth Is God Up To? From life’s experience to my thoughts while under my retirement years rock, let me share what I understand to be one storyline of Holy Scripture.  Here is what I see God to be up to on earth.

Love is at the very heart of the essence of God The Father, God The Son, and God The Spirit. The nature of that love demands that it be share. Thus, the purpose of humankind and the goodness of creation—The Holy spread of love. To give love is the Holy motive. Satan, an angel created with freewill, rebelled against Holy God and introduced the destructive force of chaos to flood creation and humankind.

Because of love for us, God The Father, God The Son, and God The Spirit placed into action a plan whereby The Holy would descend to earth in Jesus the fully human son who retained his Holy Perfection as God. Through Jesus birth, ministry, crucifixion-death, resurrection in his human body, and his ascension, Jesus took his place as King, the present and the eternal ruler of this world and all creation.

The human-bodied Jesus ascended to his throne as King to rule over all as he extends time for Holy love to flow across creation. His Throne room allows the fully human, fully divine King Jesus to walk the earth through his Spirit and within his church as he continues his mission to one day eliminate chaos on planet earth and restore it to perfection. The truth is God hates chaos more than we do.

What On Earth Is God Up To? Daily, he works on earth through his Spirit, and through us his body, to set a little more to right with each new sunrise.  Sure, a lot of chaos continues. Yet, as his grace continues to reach lost people every nanosecond around our globe, those new believers who sign on with King Jesus decrease the amount of chaos in our world. While the body of Jesus grows across our world goodness increases and chaos decreases in the lives of the disciple. Those same Jesus followers are called to join with him to share light rather than increase chaos.

What On Earth Is God Up To? God is currently on earth with his church to prepare for the day when Jesus will descend in the same human body witnessed by the apostles in ascent that day outside of town. He will come as our friend to live and rule among us on our restored earth where His Glory will light ALL and chaos will be a distant memory.

“See, the home of God is among mortals. He will dwell with them; they will be his peoples, and God himself will be with them; he will wipe every tear from their eyes. Death will be no more; mourning and crying and pain will be no more, for the first things have passed away.”

And the one who was seated on the throne said, “See, I am making all things new” (from Revelation).

What Is God Up To On Earth is to make earth free of chaos for us so that we can live in his eternal presence. A gift far beyond our current human imagination. Let’s be there.

Stay tuned.
