GodReflection: Share It Again God The Nurturer.
When I think of the word ‘channel’ immediately, I envision access. Deep channels allow watercraft passage across continents for distribution of goods. Clear channels make digital, visual, and audio communication flow across our world and even into space. Channels carved through high-mountains and meadows carry clear spring water to refresh wildlife and hikers. Channels free of judgement and
presuppositions allow both difficult and delightful conversations to flow. Channels allow divine sustenance. In short, channels allow access.
The premise of this series of posts is God created each of us with divine wiring aboard capable of direct connection with the Creator. When our internal wires connect directly to the Holy His fuel tank provides sustenance from Holy Fuel that keeps our lives from limping around on our own vapors. It is only through the channel He provides, that we have life.
God came to earth through Jesus the Son. His mission was to open the connection between humankind and Creator God. He built a channel.
I envision my role as a disciple of Jesus to so identify with Him that my life evolves into a channel of nurture whereby God provides nourishment to me, and in turn I participate with Him as a distribution channel for others. All the while, I still live in a fallen world. Satan makes it his aim to block my channel to the Holy with clutter.
He fills the channel with doubt and distraction. Satan wants me to think I am sufficient to provide my own nutrition. He wants me to question if the Holy has relevant nourishment to offer. The Devil clutters the channel with my ‘to do lists’ that far too often turn into time fillers and exercises in futility. He attempts to use my aches and pains to block the flow of fresh water from the Holy. He uses the same tactics to litter my channel to keep me from participation in God’s nutrition to my fellowmen.
I want to understand more about how to make the channel gift from Father, Son, and Spirit became more a part of my own identity. Not only am I to be a channel, but perhaps I need to begin to see my role in channel maintenance with greater clarity.
I want to do a better job to make myself available as a channel. I am aware of my proximity to the finish line. With each day that passes I long for the channel to flow with increased nutrition from the Holy Triune.
While thinking about how to close for today I came across the song Create in Me a Clean Heart taken from the words of Psalms 51. King David wrote the psalm after the prophet Nathan confronted him with his sin.
Throughout the first nine verses we witness David in ‘channel cleaning’ mode. His sin built a dam with the clutter that saturated his life and blocked his connection to God. Nutrition was cut off. In his present state David’s freshwater channel from God was in jeopardy. Nor in his sinful state can he be a channel of God’s sustenance to others. After his channel work, it is as if we are sure David’s request will be answered:
Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me. Do not cast me from your presence or take your Holy Spirit from me. Restore to me the joy of your salvation and grant me a willing spirit, to sustain me (Psalms 51:10-12).
As a ready channel with wreckage and debris removed, David can now reflect God’s sustenance to others:
Then I will teach transgressors your ways, so that sinners will turn back to you. . . my tongue will sing of your righteousness. Open my lips, Lord, and my mouth will declare your praise. . . My sacrifice, O God, is a broken spirit; a broken and contrite heart you, God, will not despise. (Psalms 51: 13-17).
