GodReflection: A Word We Can Count On—The Word.
I heard the phrase, “The Word of God“ from the cradle. (Do people still use cradles?) I suspect that my ears have heard, and my eyes have seen Word over a million times. I hate how the common place milks the power from God charged words. Our English language and everyday conversation make this our reality.
But just listen to how powerful The Word is. It is A Word We Can Count On. In the beginning was The Word, and The Word was with God, and The Word was God. He was with God in the beginning. Through him all things were made.
Without him nothing was made that has been made. In him was life, and that life was the light of all mankind. The light shines in the darkness, and the darkness has not overcome it (John 1:1-5).
The Word speaks. The Word speaks—and there is light. The Word speaks—and separates 
sky from sea. The Word speaks—and separates sea from land. The Word speaks—and vegetation embellishes creation. The Word speaks—and there is sun, moon, and stars. The Word speaks—and ocean and sky teems with living creatures.
The Word speaks—and the land fills with livestock, animals, and crawling creatures. The Word speaks—and breathes His breath into a form of clay and man becomes a living soul. The Word does the first surgery, and woman is God’s special gift to man. (See Genesis Chapters 1 and 2).
When that powerful and Creative Word speaks you and I will want to listen closely.
Back to The Apostle John’s Gospel. The Word becomes flesh (John 1:14). The Word is fully God and fully human. The Word introduces His full and complete nature to humankind. That’s to you and to me.
As we follow the life of Jesus we learn The Word loves. The Word cares. The Word feels pain. The Word gives. The Word heals. The Word forgives. The Word teaches. The Word prays. The Word seeks disciples. The Word feeds the hungry. The Word bleeds. The Word dies. The Word enters the tomb.
The Word rises again to eternal life. The Word gives hope. The Word ascends to heaven. The Word 
waits. The Word sends the Holy Spirit. The Word will return to earth. The Word will set all of Creation right once again.
Until that day comes, The Word Sustains. The Word sustains the universe. The Word sustains our faith. The Word sustains our trust. The Word sustains our walk on earth. The Word sustains our relationships with each other as we live on planet earth. The Word sustains our lives as we walk through our years of waiting for Jesus to return.
The Word sustains our love. The Word sustains our worship. The Word sustains our growth into the likeness of Jesus. The Word sustains our hope of life eternal. The Word sustains our wait and expectation of Jesus return. The Word sustains our vision of a new heaven and a new earth.
The same Word that spoke; the same Word that became flesh to let us see God; the same Word that sustains all; is The Word that powers our walk on earth while we anticipate our future.
Indeed, without The Word, our lives would be anemic and senseless. Let’s re-commit ourselves today to The Word, A Word We Can Count On.
