GodReflection: A Word We Can Count On—Create.
Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, the new creation has come: The old has gone, the new is here (2 Corinthians 5:17).
I love the way my Bible begins. It opens with The Song of Creation. Back a gazillion years ago in my working life when I Traveled to and from South America on earlier model Jet Airliners they were always overnight flights.
Awake for 10 hours and after a restless night in a cramped coach seat, the airline loudspeaker system would greet the dawn with Ode To Joy by Ludwig Van Beethoven.
Pull-down movie screens accompanied the melody with a background of beautiful scenes of a yellowish red dawn, countless species of colorful birds in flight, playful animals and blue rivers. All with the accompanied spectacular plant life. The effect of Creation beauty set to music was awe and joy.
I picture The Genesis Creation Song as an attempt to share the sheer joy of God in Creation. Can’t you see The Holy with an ear-to-ear smile and a sense of joyful pride as Father God-Jesus Son-Holy Spirit rolled out Creation!
It must have been fun for Holy God to Create—some blue here, some red there, big eyes,
beautiful antlers, countless forms, functions, and beauty. The diversity was so great that even today the list of known species continues to grow with new discoveries.
Like the repetitive chorus of a song, God declares seven time It was Good as day and night, sky and water, ground and seas, plants and trees, sun and moon, birds and marine life, livestock and wild animals, then man and woman, broke forth through Creation’s Joy.
We who live in cities miss far too much of God’s Creation. No longer do we see endless starlit skies and jaw dropping aspen meadows with herds of grazing elk. I suspect God still smiles in the rare times we joined with Him in joy over Creation. Today those scenes reside in memory banks.
The times are still powerful when we pause and honor God’s Creation. Creation reminds me of two things. First, Creation stands as a witness to God’s power. When we think about Creation, we are reminded that Father God-Jesus Son-Holy Spirit has power to see us through to the end of our time on this sin-stained earth.
Second, Creation is a testimony to God’s joy. The same joy of Creation that caused The Holy to break into the song seven times declaring goodness. It is the same joy-fountain that causes The Holy to declare goodness each time after He finished every new Creation Project. And yes, all these thousands of years later, he still declared, “It is good”, when he Created you and me.
May Creation remind us always that God sees us as good. That reality alone should elevate Create to A Word We Can Count On. As we remember how The Holy see’s us as good, may we increase the space in our hearts for the Holy Spirit to do his work.
I never cease to be amazed at the joy that surrounds Creation. That sentence when applied in a free-thinking exercise about our word Create would cause all participants to glow like Hot Air Balloons at a pre-sunrise event.
It wouldn’t take long for participation to chip in from every seat in the room as “Love You Mommy” or “Love You Daddy” cards with our first find of Fall leaves that we pasted onto bright art paper. They described Create. Remember when we drew our sidewalk chalk art? That is to Create.
Remember when we first thought about plants, green leaves, blossoms, fruit, and flowers? That was to Create. Spring, Fall, thunderstorms, lightening shows, and Winter snows, all beautifully illustrate Create. Remember our first attempts at sandcastles and sand drawings?
This Word We Can Count On—Create comes from Scripture. When I think that our Bibles contain around 775,000 words and even though I find that our word Create and its directives are used only around 60 times; I still marvel that from the first page to the last page it is a book about Creation.
Starting on the first page of our Bible God sets out to Create a perfect me with a perfect place to live. The “me” messed up His plan and introduced sin as the spoiling agent. The remainder of Scripture is about the re-Creation of me and the re-Creation of a perfect place to live on His earth. He continues to Create both you and me into the likeness of The Holy—a God objective since Adam and Eve were Created in perfection.
As Holy Reflections we are to work in harmony with our Creator God and join with The Psalmist in prayer; Create in me a pure heart, O God, and renew a steadfast spirit within me (Psalms 51:10).
That’s not a bad Creation project to spend a life on, don’t you think? Yes, A Word We Can Count On Is Create.
