GodReflection: The Ultimate IN Sider.
This morning once again we find ourselves in prison confinement with the apostle Paul in the city of Rome. From an earthly viewpoint the finality of his doom is in place. His Roman Execution is near. He still upholds Jesus the Christ as the King instead of Cesar the Roman Emperor.
With quill in hand there is yet an important letter to pen. The letter is personal. It will be sent to the most beloved person in his life next to the ever-present Jesus. For the unmarried Paul, Timothy the son he never had, fills his mind. We look over his shoulder as his ink-filled quill begins to place his thoughts in writing.
He thinks of the churches they planted together throughout the years since they met on Paul’s first mission trip. There was something special about the heart of this young man. He gladly surrendered it to Jesus. Timothy’s center was in Christ.
Listen as Paul encourages his favorite son to remain in Christ—no matter what the future brings. God is the one who saved and called us with a holy calling. This wasn’t based on what we have done, but it was based on his own purpose and grace that he gave us in Christ Jesus before time began (2 Timothy 1:9). Hold on to the pattern of sound teaching that you heard from me with the faith and love that are in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 1:13). Pass on the message and share suffering. So, my child, draw your strength from the grace that is in Christ Jesus (2 Timothy 2:1). This is why I endure everything for the sake of those who are chosen by God so that they too may experience salvation in Christ Jesus with eternal glory (2 Timothy 2:10).
Allow me to reminisce a bit. I recall an occasion where I heard an antagonist criticize the church planting efforts of a missionary colleague. My coworker’s response was that his methodology had an address. You can see it at 4805 Avenue 9th of July. Anyone can go there and see for themselves changed lives who are now in Christ. Yes, grace has an address it in Jesus—it is in Christ.
That is the message I hear loud and clear as Paul dips his courage-filled quill and writes to Timothy his son in Christ. Grace has an address. God’s gift of Salvation has only one address. His grace resides exclusively in Jesus Christ. We find pure free saving grace nowhere else. Our access to salvation now and eternally is available only through grace that he gave us in Christ Jesus before time began (vs 9). And that grace in Christ opens our lives to so much more that is unavailable anywhere else.
It is in the same God-in Christ-Grace where we find holiness, faith, love, and strength to conquer each day’s challenges. Within this Holy Address we receive power to face all discouragements—and at the same time—know joy and trust while we await Jesus’s return to set everything right for all eternity.
Yes, grace has an address. It is in Christ. And it is rather neat to know that you and I can reside at the same address cost free. That’s an unbeatable offer. We are the ultimate insiders. What do you think?
Stay tuned.
