GodReflection: A Word We Can Count On—Dawn.
In New Mexico’s Chihuahuan Desert where I grew up Dawn comes like a soaking rain without an umbrella. It penetrates life, making everything bright and new.
Dawn begins at the horizon with hues of soft blues, yellows, oranges, reds, and pinks. There is nothing like a slow minute-by-minute witness of God’s new Dawn overtaking His Creation.
In the desert a canopy of trees does not hide the spectacular scene. The colorful hues slowly fade to a brilliant warm glow of sunshine. For an all too brief of a moment, Dawn brings joy to the start of a new day.
As mentioned in an earlier post, I cannot think of Dawn without my mind drifting to international flights on the old Varig Airlines. The movie screens would descend after an all-night flight. Then, without warning, the most beautiful pictures of the Brazilian everglades, accompanied by Beethoven’s Ode to Joy, shared another Dawn for millions of birds ready to salute a new day.
Dawn is A Word We Can Count On to power our lives. We live within its reality. There is the Dawn of Creation. After an undetermined length of time, Satan short-circuited God’s indescribable hope for intimacy with humankind.
Dawn returned to announce the birth of the Christ child in the manger. This child was God on earth. I begin to see the tender side of God through the Dawn of the child. Each attribute of Jesus is no less than the personality and heart of Eternal God.
The light of Dawn announces the risen Savior. The Dawn of resurrection helps us understand the power of Jesus to lay death to rest forever. It reminds us of the future when those who trust Jesus will no longer encounter death.
Dawn appeared after our baptism. It brought us into a sinless and fresh start by its cleansing water. Then promises that the blood of Jesus would continue to do its work of covering our sin before the eyes of God.
There is yet to come the final Dawn. The Dawn of our eternal resurrection will be the most
spectacular morning we have ever seen. The combined Dawns of Creation, the manger birth, the resurrection, and our baptism will see complete fulfillment at the Dawn of our final resurrection.
The resurrection Dawn will see humankind restored to full fellowship with God. The role of Jesus in his birth and resurrection will be complete. For it is through this God-Man that the perfection of Eden will be made possible once again.
Since we brought our lives under the authority of King Jesus by our participation in His death, burial, and resurrection; then stumbled through life in trust and faith, the resurrection Dawn will be the ultimate Dawn of our lives.
Dawn is a powerful reminder to keep our eyes locked on Jesus. What a powerful word! A Word We Can Count On.
